A Little Slice Of Hell ((( The Energies Of Partuition )))

It takes a storm to bring a child into the world.

Last night at four in the morning, while I was doing the fourth epidural in a row, the new mother was really in a lot of pain. The charge nurse, who is experienced and excellent and compassionate, all at the same time, explained to the mother, 'giving birth is a (gestures with thumb and first finger) little slice of hell--but it is so worth it!'

Did you know that same nurse has been bit by a patient giving birth?

It was back in the day when medi-cal patients were not given epidurals unless they paid for them with cash. Insurance didn't cover it. They threw things, hit, bit, cursed, scratched, and spit at the nurses in the delivery room.

The OB gyn on call last night shared to me, in a low whisper, that on her way in to the hospital after doing an emergency gyn case at another hospital, she hit a dog with her car. She was heartbroken. It just ran out in front of her, and there was nothing she could do. She saw it wobbling but upright when she looked in the rear view mirror. Just then another car hit it. It went down and didn't move. She brought the car back to take it to the vet if it was alive. It wasn't. She had to come in for her patient here, who was not ready to deliver. I invited her to go to the Doctor's Lounge in the Main O.R. to get a cup of coffee, and talk. She accepted.

Did you know OB-GYN is one of the most malignant training programs in all of medicine? She trained on the East Coast, where it is even worse than here on the West Coast, but even still, it was so horrible that four of her class left the program. There were 'five bitches', four chief residents and one attending, who 'picked on everybody, especially the men'. One male, was not 'able to keep up'. He couldn't understand, even when given her notes she took and kept organized, what admission orders were, what a daily note format was supposed to be, how to follow up on routine labs. There it was explained clearly once and then expected to be perfect after that. He was asked to go. The other was a male who genuinely WAS competent, but the Chiefs didn't like him. He left to go into Sports Medicine because of the bullying he experienced. Another woman left to go to a different training program in the South to be with family. And another stayed at the hospital but changed specialties due to the stress.

Being an OB-GYN resident sometimes is like being in the Lindsey Lohan movie, 'Mean Girls'.

Yet obstetricians brave all this, and sacrifice not just their time but their being in such a malignant environment, because they truly love what they do. Our hospital is exceptional in that the different private practice physicians from all of the different groups socialize together. It is very cohesive, which makes for a better program. We are also all Facebook Friends, the nurses, docs, postpartum, and neonatal teams.

I won't begin to describe the anesthesia end of things--think of it as trying to his a moving target--

What I will share with you, as a teaching point, is how to master suddenly changing scenarios, full of drama, and risk to life.

I was asked to see a mom who had just delivered who had questions, at around seven p.m. I had so many clinical responsibilities (patients) needs I couldn't get to her room until ten at night. I politely explained the situation, and that I had not eaten dinner yet. She said, 'Do you want half of my sandwich?' I declined, saying it had meat and I am vegetarian. She said, 'Pick the meat out and eat it anyway.' which I did. Half a croissant, with lettuce and tomato did wonders! We talked through the question and arrived at an answer and it was very pleasant.

The energies were non-stop throughout the day, one 'drama' after another, and one in which the fetus actually was at risk. I fixed it with my knowledge of drugs, and although I had to leave a c-section (while they were closing) for five minutes to manage it, I confessed to her when I got back, 'I just saved the life of the baby by adjusting the blood pressure. No one will know it but me, and now you.'

What was different this time was the lack of emotional undertow into the drama/rapidly changing clinical situations. By 'hanging on to source and being grounded' I quickly prioritized the work and carried it out. One chart I had to complete at eight o'clock the next morning, because there was NOTHING and no time to chart when everything happened all at one time on the unit.

If the energies of the changes on Gaia arrive as I have a hunch they will, it is going to feel for you like the last OB call did for me. Handle it as best as you can without getting 'sucked in' to the swirling storm of emotions. Remain clear-headed, prioritize, and act. You have what it takes to 'get the job done' and help others who are having trouble adapting to the new energies and changes that are about to come with it.

I know you will be great at it! Just think of all we had to do on OB to bring a baby into the world--all the training, all the experience, and all the love we have for what we do.

You are like us helping Gaia 'give birth' to the New Society, the Golden Age where everything is fair, just, and highly pleasant!

That is why it is called Heaven On Earth!

Reiki Success Story Number 1

Yesterday morning as I came in to the OR to set up, one of my RN Reiki 1 students was going to be in there with me.

She shared how her stomach had been bothering her for some time, and she kept noticing her hands drifting up to rest on her painful areas. It offered her some relief.

Once the scrub had stepped out, I offered the RN a quick Reiki session, standing up.

I sensed her discomfort, and a lot of energy flowed from my hands into her stomach. She could feel it.

Much to our delight, the pain instantly went away, never to return for the rest of the day.

One day we are going to have 'treatments without pills or injections'. This is just the beginning.

It may not be new for those of you outside the hospital, but for those of us who work in the O.R., this is a definite 'first': two traditionally-trained healthcare workers using Reiki on each other with success.

Pie In The Sky--Dream Come True!

Yesterday I had my Reiki Dream come true: I taught Reiki to my coworkers in the Operating Room.

What motivates me is to Heal the Healers. In regular anesthesia work, I am the one many doctors, nurses, and staff request when they have surgery. They ask for me. I am that good at it. They have their friends and family ask for my services too. *

Two RN's, a Surgical Technologist (who WANTS to be an RN) and her boyfriend came to Reiki 1 I taught yesterday.

Another dream, a Pie In The Sky Part 2 Dream, is for Reiki instruction to be given to children, like in a Montessori school, so they may grow up never 'forgetting' their connection to Source. My son's teacher came to Reiki 1 class too! She also confided that my boy has been teaching HER Reiki, the symbol CKR already! And when Nathan hurt his knee, my son was right on it giving Reiki on the playground. The teacher asked Nathan did it still hurt? And Nathan, after getting Reiki, said, 'No.'

Both dreams are well on the way to becoming Reality.

All five were Starseeds, I felt it. Two were Pleiadian, one very strongly so. I felt it during the attunements. Another is a Yoga Teacher and RN!

Hummingbirds kept looking in the window. They are my Totem. They represent Joy. All day long they kept coming. The students noticed it, and enjoyed it very much too. All the trees and birds singing and breezes were like Spirit giving their Blessing, just to let us know They were Present.

The same exact moment one student lay on the table for the first Reiki demonstration, we heard the sound of shattering glass upstairs. We thought perhaps the easel with the flip chart on it, the flimsy twenty-five dollar one that kept falling, broke the sliding glass door. It wasn't. It was the rice jar. It fell off the counter in the kitchen.

I was horrified. Broken glass. Spilled rice. It was a sign but I was not sure what.

I also felt oddly like Sleeping Beauty at that moment. I knew somehow I was going to get cut by the glass. Everyone helped to pick it up. I swept up the rice. We vacuumed. But when I went to pick up the cardboard six-pack holder of tiny glass bottles of coke (my son loves it, and I ration it out very sparingly) as I was trying to adjust it to keep the rice from spilling out, I felt glass on my right pinkie finger. A shard about two by three inches had slid in vertically between the cardboard handle and the bottle necks. There was no way to have seen it in advance. Calmly, I set it down and looked at the cut. About four millimeters, it looked like a paper cut.

Then it started to bleed. I bleed more than most people--I have a bleeding condition and I have to take medicine for it. It looked awful. What is this? Broken glass, spilled rice, AND blood?!?

But then I noticed:

• we worked together like a unit to fix the spill so we could walk barefoot again in the kitchen
• one RN is a mechanical genius--she changed the bag on the Miele vacuum cleaner, my new one, easily even though she had never seen one before.
• everyone gave me Reiki. I could feel it from their hands. It worked. I still needed a bandage due to the bleeding, but today it is almost all the way healed.

Then to celebrate, only three could make it. We went out to our favorite vegan/raw restaurant together. 

The power was out.

How odd is that?

Everything worked out for the best. It helped us grow closer together as healers, all of us, even the owners of the place. Like the broken glass, everyone worked together as a team to save valuable frozen food items. It was like a volunteer fire department!

Ah! There is a hummingbird right now taking a bath in the fountain.

CRNA at the VA

As a new anesthesia resident, my first two weeks in the OR were with direct supervision from the CRNA's at the VA. The attending was in charge for both of us, and the CRNA was in charge of showing me the ropes.

Those were special times. I learned a lot, by working together and talking. In my excitement I talked with Gina about my future, and shared how after being a doctor, I wanted to paint, go in nature, and write in my twilight years.

'I'm not going to make it to sixty.' Gina said, in a matter of fact tone, totally serious. I was taken aback.

'How can you say this? How do you know?' I asked, in surprise at how this beautiful nurse anesthetist, in the peak of her career, the prime of her life, could have anything wrong with her!

'Because everyone in my family gets cancer and dies an early death. I am going to die of cancer too.'

At once I was moved with pity, compassion, and empathy for her emotional toll of having an 'expiration date stamp' on her life. I encouraged her not to believe it, to take what  comes, and to live her life with joy as she had always been doing. Her vibrancy, her big blue eyes, and her smile were effervescent.

As an attending, I learned that Gina found a husband. And in her physical exam for her new life insurance policy, a lab abnormality came up. The follow up radiological study found cancer had invaded a large organ and spread to the bones.  She bravely continued to work while undergoing treatment. She started losing weight, missing more and more days, and went on disability. She passed, barely making it to fifty. Her internal 'story' was right.

Metaphysically, what is going on here? Gina is an example of a 'tribal belief'. In growing up, she must have heard countless times, 'we all die of cancer. we all die young.' and gone to a lot of funerals. Somehow it got into her belief system that she would succumb to the disease too.

A tribal belief is something that we get from growing up in an extended family. It is a motto, a creed. Imagine the mafia or the cabal, and the 'tribal beliefs' that must have been passed down to them.
Did they have a choice? Do you recall Michael Corleone and his questioning his fate?

The most important thing to know about tribal beliefs is to know that they exist, and to examine them.  You have a choice as to whether you wish to believe in them or not. Only you can decide what is right for you. Even if you grow up in a cancer family. For example, some families with a high risk of colon cancer have annual colonoscopies from a young age, to be proactive about it. They are not as accepting of their genetic risk as Gina's family. Everyone has a choice, a path to follow, something that is right for them. Sometimes there is pressure from the family to accept the tribal belief. Sometimes there is guilt. Both of these are not based on spirit and the heart. Free yourself from anything you have not consciously decided is the right belief for you.

This concept of tribal belief is from Christel Nani, RN, who worked in the ER in NY, and became a Medical Intuitive. She was a pioneer in the 1990's. I greatly admire her work.

Reiki and the Service Nurse

Next in command below the Charge Nurse in the O.R., is the Surgical Specialty Service Nurse. This type of nurse is the go-to person for the surgeon and the O.R., the one who makes sure 'everyone is happy' and 'everything is ready' and 'the job is done right'. Circulating nurses are responsible for many things: the right O.R. table (there are different ones, for orthopedic procedures, for spine procedures, ones that permit x-ray fluoroscopy, and higher weight limit beds for bariatric surgery, to name a few)...the right equipment (there are special bovies, there are ultrasound ones, bipolar ones, ligasure, etc.)...the right instruments (every surgeon has a 'preference card') and that everything will go smoothly in all surgeries in their specialty, even if they are not personally performing the circulating role in that case. We have them for ENT, Gyn, General surgery, Urology, Neurosurgery, Cardiac surgery, Orthopedics and Robotic Surgery.

The old Service Nurse that left the service I worked with recently was a dynamo. Knew what I needed to do that was 'different' for each surgeon, and promptly communicated it with me. Was gregarious and outgoing. And very responsible.

I got to work with their replacement Service Nurse not long ago. Sparks flew. This nurse is really stressed, so much so that I was introduced to a 'helper' nurse that was hired to co-service nurse that particular specialty. It takes two nurses to do the job of the one that just left!

Where is the Reiki in this? I tell you, it is fascinating. I am the Continuous Source of Reiki. But it is my new ability to read the intent and history of the aura of somebody else that is in conflict with me that is astounding!

Within moments of the I don't think this person really likes me, AT ALL. I wonder why?

I got this:

1) RN is insecure

2) RN is very negative thinker and therefore of a lower vibration

3) My vibration is making this RN uncomfortable

4) My intelligence is threatening this RN because they are very mental. So much so to the point that 'I rarely gamble but when I do I win' because this individual is 'always right'.

5) Hypertelorism and behavior shown demonstrate this person is an Adult Child of Alcoholic

6) My intelligence is super-charged by Light and Heart, and it is really quite a combination!

7) This Generation Y nurse is having difficulty accepting the dedication and long hours required of their position, and is resentful.

I was like, 'WOW! Thank you! Now I don't have to wonder what is going on between us. I don't have to worry about what is being said behind my back-and believe me, there has been major character assassination attempts from this Service Nurse against me. I feel free! Unburdened! Love is the Solution For Everything. I will focus on raising the vibration as we work, and ensure that the rest of the team has an excellent experience for this day.'

As we Ascend, things like this are going to happen. Intent of the person you are dealing with will be totally clear and evident, instantaneously. This is how it is going to happen: World Peace. How can you shoot to kill at somebody when you 'get them' when you are in their vicinity? And you 'get' the distortions of the truth from your command?

Intuition and the Birth Plan

"How about Bradley?" asked a pregnant ward clerk, while at work on Labor and Delivery, on the subject of possible names for her baby boy.

"Um, NO!" said the entire staff of nurses that were present.

I was new to OB anesthesia at the time, so I asked, "Why not?"

The group gave a collective groan in reply.

The Bradley Technique is one of the more stringent Birth Plans available. The husband has full control over what the woman does in labor. There are very strict requirements of the hospital. When the woman changes her mind, and asks for pain medicine, the husband can say no, and this puts staff in the awkward position between husband and wife. In this situation, according to policy, the wishes of the patient (wife) take precedence over that of the husband. It is not a happy birth.

Over the years, the Birth Plan parturients have made a deep impression on me. For two reasons. First, they have an incredibly high rate of cesarean section over the random population. I have come to notice that the Law of Attraction is at work here in such a way that the entire Labor Deck is aware of it; any thought dwelt on attracts that thought. 'No c-section! No c-section! No c-section!' mentality sends an order to the Universe, which does not process the negative, 'c-section! c-section! c-section!'

There also is a sense of rejection of the medical community and what help there is available in women's medicine when such a family is admitted to the labor deck. There is a denial that a baby can die in childbirth, and that there is the best interest of the mother and child at play in the orthodox birthing process.

This is an emotional mindset that is hard to face facts. Reason often does not work with these patients. As an anesthesiologist, I sense distress and suffering in these couples. Except for the yoga teacher who really wants to 'do it all natural', there is usually some apprehension and conflict between the dad-to-be and the mom-to-be about the impending birth.

I have been keeping this mystery in my heart for several years now, asking the question, 'Why? Why do these families have such strong beliefs about childbirth, come to an orthodox medicine facility 'just in case', and refuse most of the interventions indicated for their labor? Why do they want to have their cake and eat it too? What is behind all this suffering and desire for control?

Then it hit me: what if these women, and men, in some way experienced a death in  childbirth in a past life? What if they incarnated back with the purpose not to die? And their lesson takes precedence over just about anything else that is going on? (for example, the in-utero condition of the infant?)

What if the Birth Plan is a reaction to a past-life event, driven by the desire of the individual to 'Do Over' and erase the scars that were upon their souls?

I have seen women, thousands of women, go through childbirth. I put the epidural in. I go with them to c-section. I see a LOT. And many are in thankful disbelief when all is said and done, and they are alive and the baby is with them, and everything turned out okay. No matter what else happened.

Sylvia Browne once commented that the moles and birthmarks on most of her patients correspond to traumatic events that happened in a past life. I suspect that the need to establish a Birth Plan might stem from trauma associated with a past life birth.

If this is the case, then there is a great deal of opportunity for Reiki, especially Karuna Reiki (TM), to allow for a Healing Birth Experience. Reiki-trained providers can look past the conflict and distress in the current situation to the underlying cause, and flow Universal Light Energy to the process. The dad-to-be and mom-to-be can experience healing on a deeper level, and develop Trust in a caring environment. And hopefully be 'cured' of whatever soul-level component that has been ailing them, making them free to go on to enjoy the love of family and all the gifts family life has to offer.

I think the Medical Community might step back, and instead of ridiculing the couple for their control and anger expressed at the system that the nurses, docs, and techs work in, they would understand the root cause behind all this distress.

One thing that is lacking in the dialogue process is the liberty of time. Demands on the workers in the hospital are extreme, often to the point of sacrificing their personal needs (bathroom, meals, sleep) on behalf of the care of their patients. When a couple arrive with a Birth Plan, there is going to be an extra layer of communication necessary, and more time than the average birth. This time is not compensated to the hospital and staff by the insurance companies. And also the emotional wear and tear of the staff from interacting with this perceived-hostile patient, partner, and possibly doula, is not addressed.

There is much room for improvement. The two warring factions (just read any Primitive Mother Birthing Website) for peace. Divine Peace is the healthiest state in which to enter the world. Divine Peace Birthing! Come and have your soul cared for, as well as your body! We treat your heart and keep ours connected to you throughout the birth experience! You do not need to be silent (unless you may choose), passive (unless your health situation does not permit), controlling (trust that we want what is best for you and your baby!). Many of us have experienced birth ourselves and would enjoy spending time with you, and helping you to have a wonderful experience while you are with us.

Healthy mom, healthy baby...with Heart.

Birthing balls, and candles, and underwater tubs and the like, are crying out for nothing more than that. An un-scary birthing experience this time around.

There is so much room for improvement on both sides! Reiki-inspired birth suites can bring a depth of healing to the entire process, for all!
