Countdown today is 105.
Here's the challenge--I stumbled across it by accident but it's a good one: don't go to the store, live off what you have already in your fridge, freezer and cupboards as much as possible.
We are doing this in preparation for the move and to save money. I'm amazed at how well I prepared myself!
Before, I was eating things I had bought recently. We've been three weeks without out produce delivery box. And now we are caught up.
Food in the freezer and in the cupboard doesn't last forever. That's why a 'fast' like this is good to get out with the old, and to position you to add something 'new'.
We have only bought milk once (for Anthony), sandwich meat twice (for Anthony), tomatoes and lettuce and grapes and strawberries, and bread once from Costco which are the larger sizes.
What we have gone through is amazing, and we aren't even halfway done yet.
This is an excellent exercise for Depression-era influenced people who are always preparing 'just in case'.
It raises a sense of self-sufficiency, and also, helps you to feel a little less dependent on the grocery stores. We'll be having lots of pasta with garlic and oil and pepper, canned tuna and salmon, and emptying every jar in the fridge while we can. Last night we emptied the old sauerkraut! And for a snack, we made hot air popcorn!
The whole idea was when Anthony mentioned it, in those words--we can really thank your past selves mom for helping us now! (During the move, he found his jar of change, we went to the coin star machine, and now he has amazon gift card money to turn into game cards for his video game credits.)
Ross smiles, waves and says, 'I approve of this statement'.
clap! clap!
