How I Made Peace With My Past Life As An Indian
White Bird Dove. Mother told me that was my name in another life, many years ago. She said I was an Indian. I never believed it.
In fact, when a kind man at the Grand Canyon, a Frenchman, bought small Barbie-sized Indian dolls in full costume for my younger sister and I at a gift shop (we were that poor, he could tell), I hated mine. I used to hit it when no one was looking. It made me angry and I would yell at it in private, which was very unlike me as a child. Then one day, my heart softened, and she became the favorite doll I ever had. We were inseparable.
I never gave this White Bird Dove past life a second thought. But faced with a short four-day vacation three years ago, a colleague suggested Vancouver and Victoria. He said to take a little motor bike and ride up the coast; it was his favorite thing to do.
On the travel website I looked and looked. Vancouver didn't 'feel right'. Victoria did. And when I saw this one hotel, I felt a 'nudge' like I hadn't experienced before. I booked it and didn't think about it.
Once we checked in, I noticed an Indian Chief in the room. So did my son. In Spirit. He didn't talk to me, he just watched over us. He was friendly.
It took some time for the story to be clear--Chief was my father, and my son was my best friend's kid. My son reincarnated and 'came back to me because he always thought I was really nice.' Having a six year old go on about past lives, accurately, from the back seat of a rental car can be unnerving!
We did a small ceremony as Chief asked, and didn't think anything about it until the following year. We love orcas, and wanted to come back for more of Victoria and the whales.
Last year, there wasn't so much Indian as Ghostly Walks and Mediumship. But I HAD to see Sooke. We took the drive, and the museum there was really fascinating. Although I knew the details of my unhappy life as an Indian (Lekwungen), I enjoyed our trip and didn't look back.
This time we discovered our friend on the houseboat we've known since our first visit IS full blood First Nations and has a tribe and Chief of her own! Although my 'connection' to the land seems 'less' and I sense my 'assignment' is 'done', today I had a 'nudge' to do one more spiritual 'thing'.
It was First Nations. I looked on the internet. I used my pendulum. No whales. Go to Fisherman's wharf. Don't take the car. Take the water taxi. No sooner had we got to Grilligans did our friend show up. I invited her to lunch. It was pleasant sharing a meal of poutine together, all three of us, on the dock.
She had to go to Esquimalt to do some shopping. But she suggested our taking a walk to the breakwater by the cruise ships while she was away. Something in me said, 'GO'.
Did you know that right by the cruise ship terminal, to the right of the sidewalk, are three relocated First Nations people? They were excavated in 1995, 2009 (a female), and 2013, and re-buried in this location with full Tribal ceremony?
I connected to them. I blessed them. I gave Reiki and the Transition symbol, asking them to be One with Great Spirit. I opened a very small twisting green vortex that looked just like the Eagle lower scarf I saw today (gold mint green). Instead of going up, they and their Ancient ones came forth to me! They had a message of blessing for me in return, and gave me a necklace in Spirit. I knew I didn't need to walk any further, but I wanted to see the ocean and went to the end of the breakwater anyway.
Tonight, at sunset, as I dined at the hotel, Chief came. He had very good news. He had made Peace with my heart. It was important for him on this trip to 'make it up to me', and I can tell he did a lot of work on my healing while I was asleep. He was also helping with Next Steps. He said the good would last forever, and I would be happy. I felt his Peace; it is also my own.
Sometimes, it takes more than one lifetime to find Peace with a past Life. If you feel drawn to, or repulsed by, anything in particular that most people don't, it might be a clue that there is more growing to complete while you are on your Life Walk. Give it time; do not expect to be 'over it' just because you think 'it is done'. You will know in your heart of hearts, and in your very bones, when 'it is right'.
I also have a 'sneak preview' for next year, or at least, next time I come back to Victoria. All is well. I will be sure to share it with you when it finally happens!
Please share your 'past life stories' if you are so inclined, in the comments section, too. It is my 'sense' that 'things like this are more common than one might think'--past lives and extra healing to make Peace.

Reiki for OR Injury
See that curved vessel around one o'clock on this anatomic diagram of the heart? That is the aorta. Today, a scrub tech got stabbed with the knife that is used on the aorta during heart surgery. The scalpel, a long, thin, sharp blade on a handle like an exacto knife, was tossed carelessly by the surgeon and the tech's hand got hurt on it. It went all the way to the bone.
Instead of being in on the case, he was in the doctor's lounge talking about the injury with The Prominent Orthopedic Surgeon. (see earlier blog post).
I offered Reiki. I said, 'Here, let me see..' and I gently took the hand into my own. I felt the Reiki flowing, and The Prominent Surgeon said, 'Oh, you have that...stuff... what is it called?'
I kept giving Reiki, smiled and said, 'Woo?'
'No, that is not the name!'
'Reiki'
'Yeah, that's it!'
I muttered to the tech, Reiki will hurt a little at first but it is going to make it heal faster.
The tech, who I know well and have worked with for years, watched in amazement as I worked.
I could 'sense' that he could feel the 'heat' from my hands, but was not saying a word.
You know, it is strange but I am having a much better time being accepted at my workplace than by some others in the 'raw vegan' community. More people know than not what I do. They don't know me as 'Reiki Doc' yet, but a handful are following this blog.
Today one of the other techs, who was a model for my patient 'Sam', asked to taste my raw vegan bread. He said it would taste good with cream cheese. I had spread hummus on it, with avocado, and rolled it like a burrito. Everybody else was like, what is THAT?!
It made me feel wonderful after I ate it.
Meanwhile, my friends and some of the servers at my place I hang out, look at me funny because I can see ghosts!
Go figure! Those with the highest vibrations, in theory, are less accepting? I think all of us at the O.R. must have been healers together in the past or something.
Wednesday, my dear friend, who I work with her husband, says 'he always sneaks to Vancouver when he is at conference. He is so happy, I think he had a past life there.'
I smiled. He was the one that suggested to me to go there in the first place. It turned out my Reiki Master son and I were together. I was daughter of Chief, and he was son of my friend. I was childless--almost died in childbirth and lost the baby. Uterus was damaged and my father's quick thinking saved my life from the hemorrhage. I felt so familiar with my friend when I met her. Wouldn't it be nice if all of us lived together in that life back then too?

Find Your Past Lives 101
Have you ever been to the Magic Kingdom? At any of the parks this will work. My park is the original one in Southern California, upon which I will base this simple fact you might have overlooked:
- The areas of the park you like best are LIKELY reminders of places you have lived in past lives!
For example, one of my favorite areas to eat was the Tahitian Terrace. It was a bamboo Hawaiian restaurant right next to the Tiki Room. (it has since been converted to Aladdin's show venue, but I was in the Tiki Room yesterday and I still love it! : ) ) At Tahitian Terrace a typical meal would be teriyaki chicken with rice, vegetable, and pineapple juice. There was a show with Hawaiian dancers. The entire feel was very tropical, and authentic.
I could 'relax' there, and feel a deep connection that I did not have in my home or any other place.
Sure enough, just last year I find out about my Hawaiian life, maybe almost two hundred years ago. It was a big one. No wonder why it had been wanting to be discovered again. No wonder why my Reiki Master Guide is Kamehameha. And in my Spirit work, he is right there, just like always, to assist.
Another place that I connect so much that when I went with friends I would let them go and just spend hours alone is New Orleans Square. When I was growing up, it was not the same. It was better. It had Lafitte's Silver Shop--with super expensive antique silver you couldn't buy anywhere else. There was a crystal shop, complete with a glass blower you could watch. There was some beautiful, expensive colored cut crystal in the windowsills. When the light hit it, the room was more dazzling than inside a church because the light 'danced'. I made friends with the perfumer, who really did make blends 'just for you'. There was the art of perfumery, not the art of buying designer fragrance! What is still in the corner is the Mint Julep Stand that I have always enjoyed. The drinks are non-alcoholic, sort of a minty-lime. They come with a maraschino cherry in them. Mine was stronger yesterday, like they were getting too syrupy in the fountain dispensing it. And the beignets improved from some greasy round things with a cream sauce and a raspberry sauce (they were like hushpuppies, to me, but sweet), to genuine Mickey-shaped beignets. It wasn't Cafe Du Monde--oh for some chicory coffee!--but we ate six by ourselves.
I experience the same deep connection with the genuine New Orleans as much as I do the one at Disney. Although the exact connection hasn't 'hit me yet' from my past, when I was there in October 2009 for conference, I discovered Marie Laveau. Who she was, and how she played an important stabilizing role in her community. I love her. She is not what you think. She is good. She had a difficult hand to play in life, and she played it well. She was a free --um, I can't think of the word--but not a slave. She helped a LOT of people to survive.
Last night, as I rode up to the top of Space Mountain, I had three insights:
- Those awful B movies about space were on purpose to get us not to take it seriously--except for the invading earth part which is a total falsehood designed to KEEP us disinterested in Galactics.
- On some level, some how, I am a part of Galactic, but I can't recall what.
- My job I have with my space family (all of us have them now!--Don't giggle! ; ) ) is way cool.
And on the ride down? I felt sheer bliss! I love the music that they play on the ride. If it wasn't for the long line I would ride it all day. <3
So here is the advice to you: next time you go to a theme park like the one I know and love in Southern California, watch for 'connections'...to your soul...to you heart of hearts....you will notice that you will 'like' it. You will be taking the first steps to discovering yourself. The YOU who has walked Gaia countless times as a soul wearing many incarnations.
Then, lie down on it. Don't sleep. Just allow yourself the time to 'recollect'. You will 'sense' when you are discovering 'more truth' about your heart and what it has learned across the ages. This is true for all of us. But only if you take a little time to disengage from 'Reality' and discover 'what really IS'.

Discovering Past Lives Through Your Favorite Foods
Have you ever had that happen? You taste a new food and you love it so much you wonder where it has been all of your life? Or perhaps something repulses you so much you totally avoid it?
Your soul lingers in the memory of past lives.
Sylvia Browne noted that birthmarks often are at sites where fatal injuries had struck in the past lives of some of her clients.
I noticed it the first time I had Indian food. I absolutely, positively adored it! I was in college, and at a local place with my roommate. I had never tasted it. It felt like coming home, all the spices and the warmth of the curry. After my acupuncture appointments while I was in medical school, I would always stop by the local takeout Indian place for a special treat. I loved everything they made, and gravitated towards the vegetarian and away from the Tandoori meats...
As a child I did not like meat. I did not understand why we ate it. And eggs made me sick. I had to learn to eat it. I never truly enjoyed it, except perhaps when I was growing rapidly as a teen. Once I couldn't get enough of mom's roast beef. Perhaps my life as a Brahmin still echoes in my tastes and dislikes?
Another way to know you are remembering a past life is to experience a connection to a particular location. I adore the land of my roots, New England. I know for sure I was my Grandmothers' mom, Emma, who died when she was four. She died in her bed, and my grandmother saw the undertaker yank her by the arm to move the body so they could take her away. My grandmother attacked the undertaker for 'hurting' her dead mother and never forgot the desecration of her corpse. And my Aunt Edna was my mom before that. The three of us were at a cousin's house when I announced my plans to make a visit back East. My Grandmother gasped and you could feel the electricity in the room. At that moment, a huge branch of an Oak tree broke off in my cousin's back yard. Grandma wanted to go with me. Aunt Edna agreed to come to help me know my relatives better and care for Grandma, who was in a wheelchair and frail.
It was the last time my Grandma ever set foot in her hometown. She died two years later.
I distinctly remember standing on my own grave when we visited the cemetery. I knew. And I didn't feel sad or anything. But there was great energy flowing through me as I stood there and looked at my old name.
Past lives give you lessons. I found the life before that on a short trip to Victoria, British Columbia. I was the daughter of a Chief. I was brilliant and brave and had absolutely NO credibility in the tribe since I was a woman. A tomboy, and a daddy's girl, if you will.
I had a terrible accident in childbirth that destroyed my ability to ever have children again.
I almost died.
I saw my chief father in my hotel room. And my son remembered the basics of our lives together there. he was the son of my best friend. He chose to come back in this life because he liked me and wanted me to be happy.
I remember feeling hatred, anger and distress as our small ferry taxi passed the dead man's rock with the inuksuk in the bay. It was not a good life for me.
As Emma, I had four girls in quick succession, and died shortly after childbirth with the boy, that lived. I over did it. My body was so weak I died of tuberculosis. They were so poor my grandmother was sent to convent for many years. They could not afford the children after her death.
Now, I am an Obstetric Anesthesiologist and single mother. I have education, social standing, and independence. Does this make sense, how after lives we try our best to 'get it right?' To learn lessons for the growth of our Soul, which is eternal?
I think of our lives like Rental Cars. We go to the Airport, take them out, use them to meet our needs, and give them back. Our bodies are borrowed from Source for a short time on Earth. We kind of rent them to be exposed to our lower chakras and learn the lessons to help discover our inner nature.
We are one in Life because of it. We have played every part, from murderer to victim, male to female, rich to poor, white or black, servant or master. We have our karmanic debt that we have to reduce in farther lifetimes. If the memory of a past life comes to you, REJOICE! There is karma you don't have to learn again!! And the lesson is not lost in time...
