The Power Of Quiet And Solitude

Today's Lesson is on Finding The Strength Within and Compensating For Our Weakness with the help of spirit.

It is a very quick lesson. I sort of discovered it by accident. You know that extra part of the brain--outside the ten percent we normally use? I think that might have something to do with the solution that I found for the first time today.

Are you ready?

Let's begin.

I am post-call. I worked late last night, but fortunately I didn't get called in. I slept. I still felt kind of foggy.

There is an impulse to just self-comfort and soothe after a long hard call at work. But I couldn't. There were a lot of chores to do, appointments to be made, and errands to run. I wanted to stress.
I have deadlines on many things. I get scattered and often, overwhelmed, with too much to do.

Counterintuitively, today was one of the most productive days I have had ever since I became a mom!

And it all started when I felt a 'nudge' to lay down. As I rested, thoughts came to me on things I needed to get done, but had forgotten. When I got up, I made a list. I did a sudoku, and as I relaxed and worked the puzzle, even more things to add to my 'to do' list--important things!--came up.

I added them to the list.

And I got it done.

It was possible to stay calm and effective without having to stress.

It's not like I sat around and had a lot of fun. But the focus and the clarity was greatly helped by the resting and making a list.

  • I listened to all the voicemail on the phone. (this is my least favorite thing to do)
  • I got the mail. It typically piles up, I am so busy.
  • I paid the sitter by check by mail for last month
  • I filled out an evaluation for a colleague who wants staff member privileges
  • The car got a new battery
  • Appointments were made for doctor, dentist, swim team tryouts, and more for my son.
  • We bought new shoes for school for him too
  • I printed a form and filled it out and mailed it back to some business thing I had put off for six months because I really don't like to do that sort of thing--but it's important
  • I coordinated future babysitting for next week
  • I confirmed the drum lessons with three people needed to make it happen too
This was above and beyond the regular routine with school, dinner, pets, cleaning, laundry, and garden.

Next time you are feeling stressed, or anxious, or possibly overwhelmed--why not take a moment or two to put your feet up?

You'll gain an entirely new perspective.

And it works!

Partnership With Spirit: Planning For Fourth of July

Welcome to my world <3

July Fourth is always a tough time for me. Sometimes there is the added part of celebration that is for my birthday, not just the fireworks and parades.

This year was tough to plan. I had my son this year.

Yet invitations were not 'happening'.

The best friend who is a restaurant owner had invited me to her home to see her husband's beautiful grand piano several months ago. Their home is a walk to the beach, three stories high, and very elegant I am sure. She has exquisite taste. For months I have looked forward to spending this time with her!

She never invited me a second time, or gave directions. As a white person, in our culture, if you ask somebody three times to do something, and they say 'no' three times, that means they no longer wish to be friends with you.

I've asked her twice to go to a garden nearby, I knew she and her husband would enjoy it! Both times because of work she had to say 'no'. I really look up to her, because she had the pituitary surgery that is my worst nightmare--I had it too at twenty-five--she had it worse than me! I adore feeling close to her, and I did not want to put the friendship at risk by reminding her in any way that might seem like 'asking' a third time.

I just put it in God's hands, and tell myself 'for life with restaurant people one needs thicker skin than with surgeons in the O.R.!'

Because I was sick recently, I was not welcome at my mom's house. There are two kidney transplant recipients there, mom and niece. Extra precaution, you see?

So all week I was like, 'God? I need an invitation! I need someplace to GO!'

And the invitation came. On Thursday, close enough to be 'last minute and able to say yes'. In white people culture, even if you are dying to go on Saturday night, anyone asking you on Friday or Saturday you have to decline, because it is the culture of Southern California White girls.  Don't ask my how it got to be that way. It just IS.

Tonight I am going to the home of Dr. Joe L. in 'Swanky Beach Community'. I am bringing cupcakes (organic) for the potluck and champagne gift for the hostess. It is very exciting, because Joe L. wants to talk about how 'it's going to come down' after the book gets published. He has concern about negative reaction from both the holistic and conventional groups. I am like, total, 'Surf's up dude! Let's go for it!' with a humungous SMILE. 'I'm in it with you!' So he wants a little of my attitude, so to speak. No problem Joe L!

Anyhow, I might not just be anonymous still after this book gets released. More on that later.

But being where Spirit wants you to be? At the local street fair I told my son 'you are king! Eat what you like!' while I kept a watch on him for overheating. He really isn't built for the heat like I am...but guess what???

I got a crystal, that was a stalactite with quartz around it. For thirty bucks! The energy is WONDERFUL! I also got a selenite want for three dollars (ooooooooh feels NICE energy) and some meteorite 'schrapnel' pieces from Russia (super cool energy--total BUZZ--who needs alcohol when you have selenite AND meteorite??? LOL) I also got a ball of peach-colored selenite crystal, too. (they sell retail at crystal stores for like, triple. I scored a DEAL big time!)

My boy won a soccer ball, scored a free meal for both of us, and a tee shirt with a big American flag on it!

I also took the money I would have spent on the meals, and generously gave it to the elderly beekeeping couple. I got avocado/eucalyptus honey, and wildflower/clover honey, and a tiny bee-wax soap.

Time to go frost the cupcakes!

Remember--when you are working with Spirit, you need to be sort of flexible. You will know you are 'on the right path' when things start happening EFFORTLESSLY.

Try to get in the 'zone' next time you have an event; ask Spirit to assist and you will know they are helping by how much 'resistance' you get--or, how LITTLE!

Namaste,

Reiki Doc

P.S. Tonight when you see the fireworks, I will be there. I always am. It is my heart right there in the sky, ablaze with beautiful Light and Joy that is from Heaven.  <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

A final note--what a blessing the night was! Very kind people. Beautiful food! Well, except for the coleslaw what was made with shredded mozzarella cheese that was icky. And in the canyon below? Koki frogs doing their thing! I think I need to find a new home in 'swanky beach community' just to hear the frogs! We had a 180 degree view of the ocean, with good showings of large community fireworks displays up and down the coast. <3

A Sign of Spiritual Assistance: It's Almost Imperceptible

Can you see a flower grow while you are watching it?

The same is true with us.

We grow in spirit at the same rate that flowers touch the sky; we 'get there', albeit imperceptibly.

Today I had a 'meeting' with my boss.

Yes, that's right, I have one, same as you. Anesthesia bosses always catch you in the hallway. And after the topic of importance gets done, they relax and start bringing up 'other things'.

The messages I got were:

  • Sign the contract on this line and this line after you look at it tonight (tonight I am sending it to my contract attorney! LOL)
  • Position the patient so their legs hang off the bed for an epidural. (I can't reach across the bed, I have short arms, so that's why they sit funny. But I will do it.)
  • Here on some tips to make your epidural even more technically 'slick'
  • Don't take three weeks vacation in summer,  people complain to him. Don't take off work at times when school is out because other people have kids too. (even if I get coverage--he says 'it's not first come-first serve')
  • Do any of the women want to work part time? (looks straight at me--I stalled)
  • Because this is not residency, academics, or a large corporation, don't complain about not eating lunch. ('I get lunch but don't eat it. I take a few bites here and there. By dinner I am done.' they said. 'Get some nuts and chocolate to keep in your locker.')
I was pleasant.

I was polite.

And for the first time ever, I spoke up!
  • I completely understand. I won't do the Christmas break off again. EVER.
  • I won't do Spring Break either, too.
  • But please look at it from my side--this is FAMILY I have in France, I am going the long trip, and three weeks makes it more doable. My colleagues go to Iran, China and Vietnam for three weeks all the time. This is for my son to learn to speak French. What else am I supposed to do? This was planned in January. I have the tickets. (Just don't do it again--in SUMMER--he says. Ok.)
  • I also explained that I have food IN MY LOCKER and I don't even go to the cafeteria. And because I give a detailed report to PACU, unlike the rest of the group, that is where my time for lunch 'goes'. All I ask is for ten minutes to actually eat it. I won't mention it to the team any more--I will just go eat.
If this had been me twenty-five years ago, I would have gone home and cried to my husband, and never said a peep to my boss. I would have been terrified of losing my job.

If this had been twenty years ago, I would have done my best to do everything the boss said, and made sure he knew I was doing it.

If this had been fifteen years ago, I would have complained to a girlfriend about what was said, but never let my boss know I disagreed with him.

If this had been ten years ago, I would have asked a mentor how to make it work for me--with business smarts. I probably wouldn't have had the courage to try it.

If this had been five years ago, I would have gone straight to my mentor (a different one) and done exactly what HE said to do without questioning HIM.

Today I spoke for myself.

The 'flower of assertiveness and self-confidence'  is growing with lots of love and support from my Guardian Angel, Laetari, my Ascended Masters, and Spiritual Guides. And from the day to day practice of being a mom. I try to work together and be reasonable, but I also know when to 'call him on the carpet' because sometimes that's just what has to be done, and there is no choice.

Thank you so much God for helping me to grow like that. I am happy with the results!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A lot of people are disappointed with the Spiritual Path. It's not like you can measure inches gained or lost with a tape measure. It's not like a summer blockbuster movie with special effects.

It's like watching the grass grow, or paint dry.

But that is the speed it takes for a soul to learn life lessons. That's why it takes possibly many lifetimes to learn, right?

Keeping a journal is an excellent way to watch the effect of spiritual guidance.

It's there, with you, always.

And besides, being a Reiki Master helps too. I have grown so much as a person since I first took Reiki!

Your True Calling

I want to write for you.

And I can't. I am always being interrupted. By my son, who is riding his bicycle out in front of the house, and playing hopscotch. By the chores, that keep piling up. By a plumbing leak in the garage, that makes me have to haul tons of treasures I had piled up in storage underneath it, into the house, to keep them safe from the repairman.

I want to write, and I can't. There is always something in the way. There is the phone call, the neighbor, the day at work, the bills to pay, the mouth to feed (I have pets). There is the errand, the task, the chore.

I went to the bank yesterday. I noticed that there was a surveillance camera on my window. Everyone there knows everything about my transaction, what I wore, and that my boy was with me carrying two driftwood sticks that he had found at the beach. I was aware of it, for the first time, and it felt wrong, this video surveillance for just about everything.

Inside, my heart is on fire with love from the Universe, and with my purpose. It is changing. My task at the hospital is pulling back. I may go, but I feel my purpose is going to change somewhat in the near future. That calling to the hospital I have had all my life, is different. The pull is now more to this.

I write, and the sounds of my boy stomping on the hopscotch, and tossing his marker, try to distract me.

And the writing is difficult.

There are forces used by the dark to undermine us in our searching for the Light. And how to shine it like a beacon that we are. Some of them are very high tech. They affect our ability to get along by altering the vibrational rate of our chakras. Some take away motivation. Others make the Earth and weather patterns, and natural disasters occur. Some make us tired and sleepy, without explanation or reason. (More will be known about this in the coming weeks.)

I went through medical school with a chronic sore throat. I had tonsillitis about five times a year. My sinuses were so inflamed that my primary care doctor had me keep antibiotics in the home, just in case, to start whenever I flared up. How could I have accomplished what I have with all the challenges layered upon layers as I move forward in my studies?

Every challenge, every annoyance, every illness, every disappointment, has a purpose. That purpose is to strengthen our will, our intent to survive the struggle, to overcome, and to carry on.

Yesterday, barely three weeks major abdominal surgery, as I was moving boxes that I really shouldn't move to get out of the way and make room for the workers, I thought, 'I just can't take this anymore! I am at the limit of what a human can withstand. I have an earache, I just got worked up for a pulmonary embolus on Friday, I am a single mother and my house is falling apart!'

Then it hit me, 'ask for help'.

And I understood. Ask for help from the angels, guides, and deceased loved ones. Pray for the strength to persevere, to carry on.

Sometime I get the funny feeling that I am paying off the last of my Karma. Big time.

No matter what, I have a task to do. As do you yourself. This task is known by the inner workings of your heart. It will bring joy to you when you are near to it, your task. Your fruit. Your calling.

You shall bring forth great things, to the betterment of others. And to this world.

Not with your mind. Not with your struggle. Not with comparing yourself to others.

It is with the quiet understanding that you get to know, deep within your heart, to be true to yourself, and to seek happiness that comes from being in the right place, at the right time, for your quest to be alive. It won't go away, no matter how much you try to run as far as your can away from it. Or ignore it.

There is only one sign for you: just breathe and you will find it. And the best part? You don't have to go it alone. There are plenty of guides out there to assist you. Just ask.

Just now he fell off his bike. Lost traction in a puddle. I had to put down the computer and run. I picked him up, gently, and put him in my chair out front.

I have to go. Duty is calling. Do not be afraid to do what it takes, to carry on. A new day is going to happen. Do your best and get on with it.

Namaste,
