Doctors And Food

I just got the bill from the dietician for nutritional counseling for my son. It is three hundred and forty dollars. She made him cry, and we had to leave before she actually DID anything.

It is not covered by insurance.

Insurance pays for every complication of obesity, except one: for the psychological counseling for the effects of bullying on my son about his weight.

The counselor is 'Out-Of-Network'. She is ordinarily one hundred fifty dollars an hour, but gives a discount for the school referral, so her fee is one hundred thirty dollars. That's two hours a week, one for me, and one for him, so she can get the information she needs to manage his care properly.

He is responding beautifully to her intervention for his mental health.

(the payments do not even apply to my deductible...)

There is an OB Gyn who has lost over one hundred pounds in three months. It is medically supervised, and in his words, 'was designed by someone really smart like an anesthesiologist -- <3 --who does critical care...I eat every three hours, and keep the insulin from triggering from the carbs.'

There are meal replacement shakes, and once a day, he gets 'real food'. For example, fatty fish, like salmon, is a smaller portion, but a leaner fish he gets a larger serving in ounces.

He and a RNFA (RN First Assist) were talking restaurants during a case. I had never heard of any of these places. Together they went on and on about amazing places, many of whom I can't recall the names. And Kaena wines are supposed to be amazing...

Here is one place:  http://www.innoftheseventhray.com

(just in case that 'Seventh Ray' sounds a little, well, um, metaphysical, it IS! It's the ray of St. Germain. More here: http://www.ascension-research.org/germain.html)

I couldn't help remembering when in my Family Practice rotation I had to attend an open AA meeting--listening to the conversation about restaurants really reminded me of this---except 'fine dining' was in the 'alcohol' role...

And yet the transformation of him is undeniable--as he sheds the weight, his energy body is throwing off SO much more Light. It is contagious, and totally amazing to witness the transformation with my Reiki Eyes.

I've sent a lot of Reiki to him while he operates. I send it to everyone in the room, including my patient...

<3

So at the Doctor's Dining Room, I sat eating my lunch.

I had meat.

My friend, the gastroenterologist who has been vegetarian for eight years, saw what was on my plate.

It felt awful.

I explained to him how I am eating meat now, because of my boy. We are on the insulin resistance diet--he needs it, and I am doing it with him for moral support. But I haven't lost any weight on it, and I hate meat. I never enjoy it.

He was kind.

He also shared that he doesn't trust his appetite.

So he takes the food he wants, and only eats half. The rest he throws away. That is how he says trim.

This set up a lively conversation as the cardiologist who is head of the Medical Staff, a man I really admire and enjoy, overheard us.

'Humans are the only mammal that drinks the milk of another species.' the cardiologist said with a smile, his education and intellect sparkling, as he jumped into the foray.

And the gastroenterologist, said that we drink milk as a society much longer than the animals would, who wean at the loss of their milk teeth.

He drinks almond milk, the gastroenterologist.

(At the store today, I compared--there is like, NO protein in the soy, almond and coconut milks! )

Then the cardiologist, cutting his single piece of chicken breast on his otherwise empty plate, looked up and added, 'Who knows how our bodies were designed? To eat meat? To not?'

And the gastroenterologist, said, 'We have the enzymes for the digestion of meat. I love meat. I love the taste of it. I enjoy it. But I do not eat because I do not think we have the right to kill animals for pleasure. For survival perhaps, but that is not necessary at this time. There are plant based alternatives. Man is the only creature who kills for pleasure, for sport.'

He likes to think there is one less cow and twenty less chickens killed a year because of his vegan eating habits. He morally does not see a problems with eggs and dairy, but chooses not to eat them because of the poor living conditions for the animals, who are treated as commodities and not spiritual beings which they are.

I don't know.

Survival.

I am eating meat for the survival of my son, who interprets my eating different from him as a form of rejection.

In fact, he is now more open to trying new foods, and eating vegetables, now that I eat meat and take the pressure of 'converting him' off.

The gastroenterologist gave me his extra half of his sandwich. I ate it for dinner. I was still working late.

His kindness meant the most to me of all.

I think I will eat meat only in the presence of my son, and go back to my preference when I am alone.

I never liked meat.

My parents had to force me to eat it.

We Are One

Today's lesson is going to raise the awareness of what is going on around us, awareness to visualize that which is hidden from view.

It is going to be painful, and very very rude awakening for some of us.

But it is like dead flesh that needs to be removed.

Have you ever seen a pterygium?

It is extra tissue that grows over the eyes. People who have a lot of exposure to the sun are at great risk for it. If it is not removed the patient will eventually go completely blind. So hold my hand, give me about one hour and twenty minutes of you time, and you will see clearly like you have never done in many lifetimes.

(I will place a photo of a pterygium at the very end for those medically interested, okay?)

Let's begin:

Salmon Confidential Documentary 2013

Watch this movie and answer the following questions in your heart while you are watching it:

  • Who is telling the truth?
  • Who has conflict of interest?
  • If Gaia was a person, whose side would she be on?
  • Is this type of motivation limited to the example here of the salmon in British Columbia?
  • If the people making decisions on your health in this example behave in this way, how can you be sure your safety is protected by their peers in other fields of 'business'?

What we are looking for is not fear. Although anger might well up inside us, at the trick that has been played on us, it is not the anger which should move us to act. It is awareness of a deep spiritual Truth that motivates us, an emotion that is felt in the gut. It is the sense of 'something is not right and I can't place my finger on it' but I want it to never happen again.

If you have that feeling, excellent.

If you don't. that is okay. Let us now take a break and look at a picture of the beauty of Nature...

Ahhhh! Isn't that refreshing? Whenever you are growing and hit an uncomfortable spot, just kick off your shoes and socks, and get your feet on Gaia. Her energy is sure and strong and very grounding. All the stress will go out through your feet and into her, the way it was meant to be.

If you can also breathe a little fresh air, get some sunshine, and drink some cool water, all the disturbance to your energy in your aura (it is 'growing pain') will be re-set.

Are you ready? Now for the second part of the lesson:

Read this article about how the super-sized soda was born right in the heart of Southern California in the seventies, (http://www.ocregister.com/articles/soda-614304-percent-ounces.html?page=1),
and answer the following questions:

  • who is telling the truth?
  • who has conflict of interest?
  • If Gaia was a person, whose side would she be on?
  • is this type of motivation limited to the super-size soda trend in Southern California?
  • If fast-food industry, convenience stores, and the beverage companies would continue producing these large sizes in light of all medical evidence of its harm to humankind, what other areas of our health are being compromised because of profit?

Thank you for working hard today on your personal growth and development. It isn't easy, to discover a lie that has been told to you again and again so often it seemed harmless, isn't it.

I want you to remember this:

Forever Joyful is your true essence.
Do not stray too far from that center.

P.S. The photo of the eye condition is here--it's kind of graphic so only look if you are interested in medicine, all right?

An RN Patient Who Fired THREE Doctors!

My friend is a successful gastric bypass patient. She is also an RN.

Her story amazes me, and because of this, I am going to share it with you:

  • Doctor 1:  Her internist for fifteen years. She asked him for a recommendation and referral for gastric bypass. He said, "You just need to learn to keep your mouth shut!" She told him she was never coming back. He said, "You'll come back! You won't be able to find someone to put up with you!" She left and never regretted it. At the time she had six pills to take daily for blood pressure, diabetes, and cholesterol. She weighed two hundred sixty pounds. Clearly this is an HMO. Her primary care is her 'gatekeeper'. He will experience less money or some other disincentive if he refers her to a specialist.
  • Doctor 2:   She saw him and just didn't like him.
  • Doctor 3:   The leading Doc everyone sees, the one that takes care of the sickest patients. My friend asked about a referral to a Bariatric program. The expert said, "I think you are depressed. We will balance out your moods so you won't need to eat, and then you will lose the weight." My friend was hesitant to add any more medications. She didn't feel depressed. She said to herself, "I am just addicted to food. I eat when I am happy. I eat when I am sad. I eat to have something to do." But the doctor was insistent. "Since you are a nurse, I want you to take this list of five antidepressants, research them, and pick one for you and let me know which one in the morning." After hearing that, my friend went to her favorite restaurant and downed a large size order of chili-cheese fries. 'My, that was PRODUCTIVE on my part, wasn't it?' she wryly says about her reaction to the 'expert' doctor's diagnosis. My friend then went home, and asked her husband, "am I depressed?" He looked at her, puzzled. She explained how this doctor had diagnosed her with depression and she wasn't sure if she needed the meds or not. "How long did this doctor talk to you before they decided you are depressed?" She thought about it and said, "About ten minutes" "Well, I have known you my whole life, and you are NOT depressed!" She got serious and said, 'I want to know. You don't have to spare me the truth. I really need to know this to decide whether or not to take the meds. Just, tell me if you think I am depressed." he said, NO. Their kids overheard and agreed with Dad. So that night, my friend sent a courtesy email to the highly recommended doctor. The long and short of it was: you are a great doctor but you are not the one for me. Guess what? The doctor called her and was upset! Accused her of all kinds of things! But my friend the nurse patient 'got free' from a toxic doctor-patient relationship.
  • Doctor 4:  the primary care doctor of her friend from high school that had gastric bypass surgery. When she met him, she said, "I was referred by my friend, who is now half the woman she used to be. I want to be that woman. I want a referral to gastric bypass." He didn't bat and eye and said, "I can do that". Together they did the work up and met all of the insurance requirements for the referral. She exercised and was her healthiest she had ever been at the time of surgery. She had the procedure, recovered, lost the weight, and has reduced from six pills a day to Her nice doctor said, 'you're not going to lose this inherited high blood pressure by losing ten pounds'--but she did get a reduced dose on medication for it.) She also had a tummy tuck and pannus resection on her one-year anniversary of the surgery. (A pannus is the name for a fold of skin--either with fat or not--that drapes across the abdomen or the back.)

This was her one chance to save her life. She smiles and says she would do it again without hesitation.

What I admire about her is how she found her personal power and was able to do what she wanted for her health.

Bypass is not for everybody. Supplements are required, as well as long term monitoring of blood chemistry labs. But the Double Whammy achieved by the bypass is rapid weight loss due to decreased intake and malabsorption. The gastric sleeve surgery is different, because it just 'cuts the stomach down to a banana'. Apparently there are Facebook support groups for the sleeves (GSB?). And probably for the bypass too.

It is your health. Why don't you look inside your heart, and go for what you really desire? Don't listen to anyone that does not support you. It took not one but four to help my friend.

When Hospitals Make Bigger Profits: Disinformation Debunked

This article makes me see red: http://shiftfrequency.com/noel-brinkerhoff-hospitals-make-bigger-profit-when-surgeries-go-badly-than-when-they-go-smoothly/#more-25742

This is disinformation.

I am seeing safety being cut in patient care due to risk of not being paid because of complications.

For example, a foley catheter is routinely inserted in surgery to allow for the urine to be collected during the operation, and in the recovery period after. This is important because to the anesthesiologist, the kidneys are the proverbial 'canary in the coal mine'--when there is insufficient blood flow to make urine, the anesthesiologist adjusts the amount of fluids given, blood pressure, and heart rate to increase the urine flow. On long cases, over three hours, I insist on foley placement also because in my opinion, no one, conscious or unconscious, can hold their urine for much longer than that. (The bladder stretches too far and is not able to void properly once it has been stretched. It will need a catheter for twenty-four hours to allow the bladder to 'rest'.)

A foley catheter is a tool I use to help manage my patients intraoperatively.

Increasingly surgeons are choosing not to insert them to avoid the penalty of not being paid for a urinary tract infection.

Complications happen. It is part of doing business. Medicine is science but not amenable to 'assembly line' philosophy. Every patient is different.

And many patients present with very high risk for surgery. The airway is un-intubate-able due to obstructive sleep apnea and morbid obesity. The diabetes makes infection of the surgical site much more likely. The underlying cardiac disease makes the patient more vulnerable to the effects of anesthesia.

Long story short--when there is threat of no compensation due to complications, physicians will not do the case.

Let me repeat: when the risk of a poor outcome is high enough that there is a good chance the hospital and care team will not be compensated for their services, only the best candidates for surgery (the healthiest) will be allowed to go to the operating room.

'Do the right thing' is a terrible twist of the facts. Don't buy into it. If you have had complications in the past, surgeons are going to think twice before they decide to take care of you the next time.

Already now, I know they are not providing gowns or taking vital signs for routine post-op visits, and are keeping them as short as possible, because to do what they used to do under the current rates of reimbursement from insurance would simply drive them out of business. Someone I know just retired after forty-nine years in private practice because they could not afford the rent for the office, the malpractice insurance, and all the rest to keep their practice afloat. It just wasn't worth it.

In anesthesia you will see a trend of less physicians and more nurses giving anesthesia, because the insurance companies and hospitals are looking to save cost. Already Medicare is paying twenty cents on the dollar for every anesthesia service that is provided; in no other specialty is the compensation so much lower than insurance rates. In some areas, Medicare patients are not welcome by primary care physicians, and patients have to drive hundreds of miles to the nearest big city to obtain basic medical care.

There is no better time to bring Reiki into traditional medicine, isn't it? Spirit needs to be asked to step up to the plate and help this entire establishment turn itself around.

That is my dream That is my heart's desire--to bring 'Heal' into 'Healthcare' again.

Reiki Pre-Op Assessment: Dealing with The Elephant in The O.R.

By the time I introduce myself to you in the Pre-Op Holding bay, I have formed some opinions about you, the surgery, and the best plan for anesthetic that will keep you safe. Sometimes, I get surprises. I do not let them show, when I see you. But I want to say that my busiest time of day, next to just having started the anesthetic, is while I am sizing you up.

To get the best data from you about your health risk to my proposed anesthetic plan, I will talk to you an put you at ease. My mind is working fast gathering the data as we talk. I will ask questions and examine you in order to fill out a mental 'check list' I have of all your body systems that encompass you from head to toe. I want to know past surgeries and most of all your perception of your anesthesia experience in the hopes of making a better experience for you in my care.

In many ways I am like a server in a restaurant. I am not the memory only type, I have to jot things down while I talk to you. I have so many different 'pictures' in my mind from all my patient-care combinations of health problems from all of my patients I have worked with, that I find writing them helps me reference later when I want to check things again.

Energetically, I am unconsciously scanning you and doing the same with Reiki. I am not 'healing you' or 'actively doing Reiki' at the time of meeting at your bedside. But I have intuition to guide me in my selection of anesthetic equipment and technique for you. And I go by that as much as I do my board-certified standard of anesthesia I have been trained to do. A smaller endotracheal tube here for a singer, in order to spare the vocal cords. And extra scope in the room for the morbidly obese. A dose of benadryl antihistamine in the case for you because you have so many allergies to medicines that even though I plan to avoid those triggers, I want to be sure the likelihood of other drugs 'setting you off' is low. If you are on steroids such as prednisone, I give you an extra dose to help you through the stress of surgery for your stress response is a little flat due to your medicine your are taking.

I come from a place of non-judgement. I critically think within the medical specialty I have. But your size, religion, sexual preference, social standing, and the rest do not affect me at all in what I actually do. Only how I interact with you to make you comfortable prior to your surgery.

This non-judgement is theraputic. It heals by allowing you to relax, and take you time to gather yourself together to face this enormous challenge it will take for you to 'get well', to 'fix your surgical problem' and in order for me to be 'there for you' I have to make sure first that 'you are in the picture' as partner to the healing process. Be it metaphysical, physical, or mental. My goal is to make a 'spark' so you will find your bearings and be on your True Path aside from this surgery one.

That is why I talk to you. That is why I send you Reiki when I am close by. That is why I formally give you Deeksha, Reiki, Karuna Reiki (TM), and Divine Peace Healing when I have the time (your case runs longer than the time it takes to do the bare necessities of charting and administering anesthesia to you).

My goal is to take your apprehension about surgery. squash it by pure loving energy, and let Light take the place of your fear. Together we can move mountains.

Namaste,
