The Miracle In My Operating Room!

The surgeon burst into the room while we were readying the patient for his next case.

'I can't believe it! I just saw our last patient. She is totally AWAKE, has NO PAIN, and the pain in her arm she has had for the past two years is SUDDENLY GONE!'

(this never happens with pain patients, not this fast. Ever.)

Our patient looked 'like a rose' in the recovery room

He wanted to know how this miracle happened.

I gave Reiki. But should I tell him? He's not that open...besides...there was something bigger I had to confess...

Hey? Doctor? I have to share something I think you should know...

After THIS:

And before THIS:

I did THIS:

Right as she was about to fall asleep, I  leaned in close and whispered in her ear,  'While you are sleeping, why not let's take Doctor's credit cards and go shopping together! You pick the place, and I'll go with you. Won't that be FUN? You can go any place you like!'

And she smiled a big grin as she drifted off to sleep...

The surgeon stopped in his tracks.

He paused.

He looked at me.

I didn't know what he was going to say, but at least I had it off my chest that I had told him what I had done...

And he smiled.

He said, 'Whatever it takes to make her relaxed and comfortable, that is okay with me. Besides, she is never going to remember!' Then he kept muttering about the miracle...

Sometimes, all it takes is a woman's touch to make the healing complete...

At age four I decided my career <3

The Deborah Cohan Video: Something To Add ((( BIG ANESTHESIA HUGS! )))

Hi Deborah,

I hope you are recovering nicely, and taking 'in' the miracle of the body's ability to heal.

Your video, your Flash Mob in the O.R., touches my heart, and also touched the world.

You have achieved in six minutes, what I have only dreamed could be possible.

Mahalo.

And aloha to you for following your heart, and doing what you really desired to do. Although it might at first have seemed like it was for yourself, God worked through you to give hope to all of us!

If you don't mind, I'd like to share the video after I bring up a few important points for my readers:

  • Deborah is also Dr. Cohan, a surgeon herself. She is an OB-Gyn, a specialist in the delivery of babies and women's health. She DOES breast exams on others, and refers out to breast centers for her patients who have abnormal mammograms or masses that she finds with her exam in the office. This is one of the most difficult things to do for a physician--be a patient--because you know way too much!
  • If you notice, the people in the O.R. are not random. Because of the stress of having surgery yourself when you normally work in the O.R.,  patients such as Deborah are allowed to select who will be on their team when the surgery is performed at the facility where they work. Deborah knew everyone well in that room, and they also were friends and colleagues with her--based on the contact I saw in the film. I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure this was a gesture of love and support to a healer by granting her 'request'.
  • Deborah brings the Goddess Energy or 'Divine Feminine Principle' into her O.R.--dance is not linear--it is curved and free flowing, just like the 'Yin Vibration'. The dance is so much more than a celebration of Life, joy and vitality. It is the energy of Gaia Herself.
(here is the direct link: http://youtu.be/uGU-0ZZRp9w)

And just for you who do not work in the O.R. every day, here's the scoop on who does what…
On the left, in the light blue gowns, are the surgical technicians or scrub techs (or scrub nurses). They do not touch the others because they have to keep sterile. Otherwise Deborah might get infection. They dance but keep a close eye on the back table because of all the instruments. The room is 'open' and technically 'ready for surgery'. I bet they have sterile towels over the instruments just in case so the air movement from the dancing won't blow any germs onto them too.

The O.R. table does not have the arm boards attached. It is puffy because the circulating nurse is blowing the bair-hugger (warm air body heating device) to make the table nice and cozy for Deborah when it is time for her to lay down.

The person at the head of the bed is the anesthesiologist, like me. Being chosen to be the one to give anesthesia by special request is a big honor, and you can see her Love for Deborah, not only in the hug and kiss at the end, but in her participation in the dancing with her whole body and heart. Inside, when you see your colleague go unconscious at your induction of anesthesia, for a split second, you want to just sob because it is so horrible seeing them so vulnerable. It is also sad because you understand the medical condition and all of its significance. But then you realize they trust you to do your job enough to have selected you, and after that nanosecond your training kicks in.

The women on the right are O.R. nurses. One of them is the circulator. The others are nurses and scrub techs and possibly anesthesia technicians--all who are friends with Deborah. Some might even be doctors too!

There is no i.v. in Deborah. She has a gown on to cover her back side--a second one that is worn like a jacket. Ordinarily she would have on a single gown that opens in the back, and a bouffant cap. I think it makes for a good video, don't you? She is also not on a gurney. I have never seen an adult breast surgery patient come to the O.R. on their own two feet. This is empowering too.

Thank you for creating a masterpiece in the O.R. Deborah and all of the crew in San Francisco at Mount Zion.

Don't let it stop.

Keep the spirit and energy of this video with you every day, everywhere you go.

It is time.

P.S. I dedicate this to my best friend, who is also my first friend, Jackie and also to my college friend for life--Dori. You each posted this to my page. I hope this article touches you the way your thoughtfulness touched me.

Anesthesia Tech Mediumship

Our anesthesia tech was extra friendly yesterday morning. She was even walking with me down the hall. She usually doesn't.

At the last second before I had to go, she stopped and asked a favor; she had felt something poking her in the ribs for the last two days, and wanted to know 'what it was'.

From where she pointed (there was nothing there like gallbladder or anything) and the look in her eyes I understood it was Spirit that was troubling her.

So in the middle of the hall of the O.R., I stopped. I opened my chakras. And I scanned.

Sure enough, over the left shoulder was a short woman who looked like Grannie on The Beverly Hillbillies. With spectacles and a bun. She was smiling.

The messages were:

  • I am proud of you
  • Fly high! (reach for high goals--today I see that it is support of the deceased loved one that will help make things 'happen' to reach them.)
No more messages came.

I closed my chakras. She thanked me. And we both went on with our day.

The Ghost Whisperer In the O.R.

I came out.
I came out today in front of my peers.
I came out!!!

I am not gay. I came out as another group that faces haters, the group that gets called 'woo woo' by those that don't understand.

I wasn't expecting it to happen. But when the chance came up, I went for it.

I just got home from a long day in the O.R. The last case took five hours. There were two teams, an ENT one getting a graft at the head of the bed, and the other working team down below.

Tonight felt different. I felt giddy, almost, because I enjoy the tech at night (not my you-know-who I have hopes for), we joke around. And I knew I would be cracking up a lot, and warned the surgeon that 'he started it!' and pointed to the tech.

After four hours, with one up at the head taking over all of my real estate--I had to walk around the room to put medicine in the i.v.!--they started talking. And the tech started to talk about that feeling you get when you think you might have seen a ghost. He had been in a restaurant in Orange, when someone tapped him on the shoulder. He turned around, and there was no one there. It happened  twice. Finally he guessed it was a ghost and asked it to stop. It did. He was going on and on. And I asked him to share more. How did it feel when you were with it? As the stories went on, he said, 'you know those people who are kind of like The Ghost Whisperer?'...

And I cut him off. I sensed the misinformation behind that statement. I sensed the Hollywood, the drama, and the ability to sell lots of products from commercial time spent on that subject.  I cut him off at the get-go, and said, plainly, 'I am one of those people.'

The surgery on the head stopped.

'You mean, you see dead people?'
'Yes.'

There was a pause. Now this tech is one of the most soulful, accepting people in the O.R. And all of us are highly education. But I was faced with a wall of disbelief.

'It runs in my family.'
(pause)
'I grew up with ghosts. We had one in the house. One night when mom went to bed, dad was already in bed, and neither wanted to get up out of bed to turn off the light. It was a sconce on the wall with a little twist switch at the bottom of the light fixture. Dad got smart and said, 'Ghost! Please turn off the light!'
SNAP-the room went dark with a click.
Mom and Dad were kind of weirded out, but Dad asked nicely, 'Ghost! Please turn on the light!'
And SNAP-the light went back on.
They repeated this. And the same thing happened. Then they let it go.
Someone had died in that house before my parents had moved in. There had always been a presence. But we  didn't know for sure until that night.

At that, I had an audience. I shared about the three ghosts on the Queen Mary. And then  the tech shared about his father and the teen gang he was in see a pretty lady walk through a cemetery fence/wall one night. How a babysitter in Honduras where he grew up had black magic. His brothers heard voices and didn't want to sleep upstairs. They fired the woman and did not give her her stuff. They burnt it out in the street, and the metal railing on the balcony shook hard the whole time her stuff went up in flames. People were in the street in the small town, watching, and terribly frightened by the supernatural event.  Another aunt was a 'witch', and asked the mom for three hairs when she was pregnant with the tech. The hairs were to 'bless the baby'. Well, at birth, the baby got so sick, he was sent home to die with the parents. The mom remembered the hairs, and told dad, who took a gun to his sister and said, 'If the baby dies, you, your husband and kids are going to die too.' He got better in days.

He saw a lady in the house where his girlfriend lived with her grandmother, who had Alzheimer's really bad. She was down the hall, but looked too alert for the grandmother. He told his girlfriend he saw her, but she asked for description. He described her, and she shared it was not her grandmother, but her great-grandmother's spirit who watches after her. The great-grandmother had a curved spine, kyphosis (a hump).

The best story he shared was how his mom was so sick, that her usual ride (both lived in same apartment building and worked at the same office) went to work without her. The tech stayed home from college to take care of his mom. At noon, there was a knock at the door. It was the neighbor/coworker. He said he was concerned about the mother, and just tell her he said hi. The tech invited him in, but he said, 'no'. He told  his mom when she woke up from her nap at three about the visitor. She said, 'That wasn't him. He can't leave work in the day.' And sure enough, the man was with another coworker at the time of the door knock. But the tech SAW him!

I smiled and described bilocation, which I learned about from my study of the saints, who would heal the sick at the same time they were praying someplace else.

I shared how the OR Manager's mom was present at a birthday party the OR had thrown for her. Her mom died when she was eighteen. I shared how I got the message, weighed the risk, and decided it was better to share it than keep it to myself. And I shared how I told the OR Manager, making sure she was okay with getting a message first before actually giving it. That got weight. My tech friend said,
'You have a gift!' But the circulator nurse, a Filipina, freaked out with her eyes and face, staring at me, but being polite.

The ENT surgeon took it in stride, and was his cerebral self the whole time.

With the stories about the witches and dark spirits, I snuck in some education. I saw lack of knowledge about the Spirit life. Ghosts aren't scary. Most of them don't know they are dead. Some have a message.
And any dark one, you can make it go away. Tell it to go away, and it has to obey our law of free will.
