My Summer Cold: Integrative Healing In Action

The sore throat started on Saturday night.

Sunday I was wiped out. All I could do was sleep. I didn't understand why. I had completely forgotten our anesthesia tech had been out sick last Tuesday and Wednesday, but came in to work last Thursday because there was too much work to be done.

She had looked like death warmed over when I spoke to her briefly on Thursday.

Little did I know that was enough for me to catch 'the crud'. Monday I went to work, but I was dragging. And fortunately Tuesday I had the day off.

Today I am feeling much better.

As a chronic sufferer of allergies and asthma, I am delighted to have avoided seeing the doctor and taking antibiotics--AGAIN.

Here's what made the difference:

  • I listened to my body. My boy is old enough now to let me rest. I made meals, but I did little else but that when I was home.
  • I took advantage of conventional medicine--I took one of my son's leftover antibiotic pills, and a 12 hour Mucinex in the middle of the night on Monday. It seemed to help 'turn the tide'.
  • I made smoothies my 'inner healer' told me to take. For example, Tuesday's lunch had strawberries, ginger, and CAYENNE! And lots of honey.
  • I kept an eye on my asthma symptoms, always knowing when I would 'call it' and seek medical help
  • I asked Spirit for help--literally. And it came! One of my Facebook people felt drawn to post on my page she had used the point of a crystal on her pain and taken her pain away!
  • Spirit sent me a picture of how to do that for me (it resonated)--I put labradorite under my feet, black tourmaline over my navel, celestial quartz over my heart, and a pyramid of tachyonized celestial quartz I had bought from Cobra at my crown chakra. I also 'knew' to lay like that for twenty minutes. We set the timer. I felt energy flow!!
  • I took one dose of Turmeric, powdered pill
  • I focused on getting myself 'really healthy' in my mind/body/spirit/aura
  • I told someone I trust something I had needed to say for a long time.
  • I also told someone I trust more (Jesus) about how I feel about the someone I trust, asking for His advice and guidance on this situation. I unloaded EVERYTHING.
  • I 'let go' and allowed my body to rid itself of 'whatever' it was that was 'coming out' of my Vibration.
  • I also used something new, personally made for me Flower Essences, not for the cold but for 'who I am energy-wise right now'--here is a link: http://galacticconnection.com/alexandras-galactic-essences/essence-for-the-times-i-am-free-to-be-me-activator-essence/ (contact Alexandra for your own 'blend')
  • Sleep was the most important medicine; I listened to my body. The sink piled up, so did the laundry, and I got none of the paperwork done. But I HEALED.
Did I do Reiki?

No more than my daily Reiki. However, my Reiki was 'different' in that I had some 'help' from my guides who did more of the 'work' on me than me.

Did I ask for Reiki?

Well, yes, from my son who is a Reiki master. And he laughed and said NO and went back to his T.V.

Any affirmations?

Sorry Louise Hay, no, I did not say any affirmations to myself. LOL

Did I cheat on my diet?

A little, yes. I wanted lots of protein on Sunday night (chikn' cutlets and fish sticks) and also lots of chocolate too on Monday. I figured my body 'needed it' because once I had it the craving went right away, and I am not typically someone who 'craves'.

Was I bummed that I got sick when it is perfect weather outside and I had the day off?

Absolutely. But I was also bummed about other things, and I let myself cry it out.

I am sure a lot of you wonder how I think when I get sick. Let me share--I got sick a LOT when I was younger. Many doctors are former kids who spent a lot of time at the doctor's office growing up! All through medical school I had chronic sore throats, even seeking tonsillectomy, but there was nothing left but scars where the tonsils used to be. They had shrunk. It has been a long time for me on antibiotics most of the time, until about four months ago.

What did I NOT do?

The old Italian remedies of siroppu (melted sugar and water for cough), garlic eaten fresh (my kid would have disowned me), vick's on the chest, and a wool sock around the neck (it was too hot weather).

So tap in to your 'inner healer', ask for spiritual guidance, listen to your intuition, and know when to seek medical attention before it gets 'too late'.

Happy Healing!

The Pattern Again

I saw it again. The double cancer. This time it was thyroid first and then breast. I couldn't get an energy read on the patient. I was too sick.

Yesterday I wanted to go home. I listened to my body. Through a case cancellation and a gap, I was able to rest in the car between cases for two hours. That deep sleep is helpful.

I have suffered from chronic bronchitis/sinusitis since my surgery when I was 25. I tried healing on my own, when there was bloody purulent pus coming out of my nose. I went to the doctor, and he almost did surgery on me. That is when I started the antibiotics. Lots and lots of them.

My asthma makes it hard. Every February, I get very sick. This time it was the babysitter's sore throat that went to my son that went to me. The babysitter never needs antibiotics. Maybe half the time, I guess.

My son's cough is better. But his post-nasal drip is worse. And me, my eyes are all glassy. My cough in the OR yesterday was scary.

As if by chance, one of the surgeons I worked with was my own doctor from a place I used to work at before. He knows how sick I get. He has put me on super-doses of antibiotics to clear something I just couldn't. He was kind and asked me if I was taking anything. I said, 'no, I haven't had time to go to the doctor.' I could have asked. Curbside request for antibiotics. But it just seemed not cool.

I am listening to my body. Before, I knew that infections left scar tissue, in the sinuses and the bronchi. My bronchi are expanded from so much asthma and infection in my life. But I have listened to me body. It wants REST. And not to eat.

I feel better today. Yesterday I just sat in the OR for three hours, with the Bair Hugger on me and on my patient. It felt great. It was the first time I have been present in the OR in a long time. Usually I read the paper, catch up on paperwork, or go over my schedule. This time I self-Reiki'd. I also asked for angelic intervention with our illnesses at home. For the first time I am aware I live in this magnificent body, which is capable of self-healing. I want to listen to it. And I see like the animals, antibiotics allow us to work more, endure more stress, when we should be treated better and allowed to rest. Antibiotics are a scam for those who work too much. My body is trying to tell me the hours I work are too rough on it.

Anyhow, last night I got home at 8:30 p.m., and my son had the choice to go home with the sitter or stay with me. I have an insane 7:00 a.m. start. We normally start at 7:30. That extra half hour puts an hour on my schedule in the mornings. I have to drive ten minutes away to the sitter's to drop him off because the school is not open. I have to be there at 6:40 a.m. for a 7:00 a.m. start.

Time to make tea, lots and lots and lots of it. And some warm oatmeal too.

Grace and Gratitude: What to Do When Children Get Sick

Yesterday I spent the morning in the Emergency Room at a Children's Hospital with my son. His vague abdominal pain had localized to the right lower quadrant of the abdomen. His finger pointed right to the appendix and it hurt him to walk. Many breakthroughs came up for me. Let's discuss them.

1)Going to work in anesthesia you have to show up unless you are in the hospital. I found myself thinking, I can let him sit until I am done with work and then go to the hospital as I drove to my mother's. Then something caught me: this is sick.  He is your son. So I started calling others at six a.m. to show up for work for me. As I spoke to the nurse in charge of the O.R., she said, 'You have to call the boss even though he doesn't like to be called in the morning and tell him your son needs to go to the hospital." And I did.

2)Using my familiarity with hospitals to the benefit of a family member first we stopped at home to get a stuffed animal. We got a HUGE killer whale that is as big as my son. Why? Did you know a stuffed animal can go in the hospital where parents can't? The O.R. Or in my case, the CT scanner. The ER doc knew me from our mutual place of training. We got extra good care.

3)Trust the skills of  care team members  Grace is the name of the nurse who put the i.v. in my son. We were there at change of shift, the time in the hospital when nothing gets done, because the old team want s to go home and the new team isn't informed about everyone there yet. She let him touch and see everything every step of the way. A good pediatric hospital with let kids check things out before they do the procedure. He felt the tourniquet, the numbing spray, the chloraprep wash and only said the needle part might hurt and gave him practice pinches just to know. Another nurse came out of nowhere and helped hold the arm. And in one try, BOOM! it went in. Grace's smile was big and her bedside skills were excellent.

4)Everyone is a healer The Echo Tech saying, 'good luck' to the boy as he dropped us off in the holding room. The nurse who held our son and promised him a trip to the treasure box for being so brave. And the transport people! You know the ones that push the gurneys from  one test to the other? They have LOTS of chances to make a positive impact on patient care! The hospital is full of places to make a difference in the health of our patients! Especially the ones who are in touch with their own Human Energetic System, or 'aura', know Reiki and connect to Source every day.

5) Sometimes is it better to be wrong than right There was no surgery. I took the day off, losing income, and racked up HUGE bills because of all the deductibles on my insurance. But the peace of mind is worth it. I was never that good at diagnosing appendicitis anyway as a surgery resident. What he needed were the tests and he got the tests. When I spoke to the boss at three, he said when his daughter was the same age she had the same thing as my son. But the surgeon knew him, and said, most would operate but for us we are going to wait one more day. And she got better. Sure my pride took a back seat, but the bigger picture is my son's health. And he got better.

Namaste,

Reiki Doc

P.S. every step of the way, I had my hand on him as a continuous source of Reiki. Being a Reiki Parent can help when your kids are sick.
