Lightwork in the O.R.: a Case Study
As I was setting up for my first case, I got word that the patient fainted during insertion of the i.v. EKG's were taken, and I needed to look at them.
I had seen that one before, clinically. Someone had brady'd down to heart rate of thirty before their plastic surgery, and passed out. I was horrified, but my surgeon had seen it before. I had to wake her up before I could put her to sleep!
I had on my 'Reiki game face' as I opened the drape on the bay in pre-op holding that had my first patient and their loved one. I had to be 'on', 'positive', and 'empathetic', dispelling all fear and instantly establishing trust. It was 'make it or break it'.
"What's with this i.v. thing?" I smiled and asked the patient. He looked horrified, as if I was going to cancel the surgery. I laughed and said, "Guess what? I do that when they draw my blood too! My entire family laughed at me when I said I wanted to be a doctor, because I faint when they draw blood. You are okay. We are wired differently and we go vasovagal and we faint. Everything is going to be okay."
What next caught my eye, after shaking hands with both the patient and his girlfriend, was the beautiful crystal on her necklace. A greyish brown, with swirls, it was a point about one inch wide and three inches long. I asked if I could touch it? I admired it, and told her it 'felt good'. She said it was Labradorite, for protection.
I laughed and shared what I had around MY neck. "I wear amethyst, see? And this is my Om (it has diamonds on it)--it is all sparkly, like me!'
"Is that a Canadian Maple Leaf you have on your lanyard?" the patient asked, incredulously, reaching up to take a look at it.
"Why, yes it is! I am half French Canadian!"
"I am from Toronto!"
Score: Reiki Doc 1, Patient happy!
Anesthesia, technically, was uneventful. It was a short case, and everything went well.
Reiki-wise, this was one of the most unusual cases in my career. I gave Reiki, lots of Reiki, way more than usual. It was like water in a desert. It just kept going in. The solar plexus, or yellow chakra, sucked it in. So I gave it. I felt the spirit of this individual wanting to heal, very much so, and I allowed the energy to 'connect' to him in the process. I gave Diksha, balanced chakras, and gave Reiki complete with symbols while pretending to fix the Bair hugger warming blanket and do anesthesia-related activities. (I can do anesthesia and teach, I can do anesthesia and tell jokes with the surgeon; anesthesia is a lot like driving a car, yes?) I actually was guided to attune him to Reiki 1, as I do sometimes, smiling inwardly with my guides at the thought he is going to wake up psychic!
I went afterwards to talk to the girlfriend. I assured her everything had gone right, and that her boyfriend was safe in recovery room 'sleeping it off'. I wanted to talk to her about the energy work I had done, but it was in the lobby, with others nearby, and I wasn't sure if my insights would be welcome.
"You are so cute! There is something about your energy..." she said.
I took that as a go. I shared with her my findings on the Intraoperative Reiki. They were spot-on. (She had just graduated from a local Energy Healing program, and had her Tarot Bible with her things!)
Her surprised relief from being able to share her perceptions about her boyfriend gave me joy as a healer--when everything 'works right' it is a beautiful thing to watch. I was doing way more than giving anesthesia at this point. I was being a doctor, a specialist in Energy Medicine, at this time.
She asked me for my contact information, exchanged hers, and asked me to find out what his past life trauma was, and fix it.
I had no read on it at the moment. But in the middle of my NEXT case, I 'got it'. I texted her immediately--confidential to her--what the trauma was, that it was actually from THIS life, and how best to manage it from an energy healing perspective.
Here is her text back (she gave me full permission to share 'our story'):
Thank you sooo much doctor. That explains a lot! Its probably why he and I are close same thing happened to me in a past life. I went on your blog, I am so grateful I met you. When you have your reiki class please let me know the dates. I asked God to send me a spiritual teacher yesterday and I met you today. With love and light, C
Impression: Intraoperative Reiki is a powerful tool. It helps to establish rapport. It helps to address the underlying conditions, both on an energetic level and a deeper soul level, that result in the manifestation of physical disease. It is non-toxic, safe, and does not need to be documented or charted or even discussed with the patient at the time it is given. People come to us for healing, in the hospital. It would be remiss to leave something clearly in need of treatment, untreated, when we have the ability to treat it at the same time that other work is being done. Anesthesiologists and CRNA's are the perfect providers for this purpose because we are at the head of the bed in surgery, and our anesthesia weakens the aura in the first place. Why not take the opportunity to shore it up and strengthen the aura at the time patients are most vulnerable?
This treatment itself took about seven minutes. Talking in pre-op and the lobby took about ten minutes total. For seventeen minutes, that is about one unit of anesthesia billable time, which is not much 'work' but yields much benefit for humankind! Intraoperative reiki, like all reiki, strengthens and heals the energetic system of the healer while it is given to the client. It is a total win-win for all parties involved.

What Reiki Can Do for You
I remember in biology class, putting a chunk of heart muscle into a blender and making a puree, in order to extract the mitrochondria out. I kept thinking, 'there has to be a better way than this!' It was brutal.
What I have learned since that time, is that there is an energy system in your body that you can't see, but you can feel, like your 'aura'. The chinese have 'figured out' the meridians and pathways with acupuncture, and successfully treated an entire population with this form of medicine.
Reiki taps into something that is 'hard wired' into the energetic body, and is designed to heal others and the self. (The symbols are already 'in you' and only need to be 'activated' by a Reiki attunement)
Reiki is non-toxic, non-harmful, and only what is needed will be taken up by the patient or client.
Reiki practitioners are a conduit to the Universal Healing or Light, and work in partnership with their Reiki Guides who are On The Other Side. There is an agreement that the healing will flow from the Reiki practitioner's hands to the client after the Guides keep it flowing down in through the head of the practitioner. The healer 'taps into it'. The healing is quick and very powerful, but gentle and humble in every way. A burn can be reversed immediately. I had a bruise on my finger from lifting a box that was so bad there had to have been some broken bone. X-rays my peers in the O.R. had me take because it looked so 'bad of an injury' were negative. And it was completely normal and functioning two days after self-reiki.
Reiki has a 'heat' or 'tingling' when it is flowing. Both the client and the healer 'know' energy is being moved during a session.
Many times I am approached for my medical expertise, for example, a sore foot.
As a healer, I look for clues and ask questions. I also look for clues on the energetic level.
I do the best I can to set everything working 'right' the way 'it was intended to work'.
To me, it is as if a foot was badly scraped and there was dirt and broken glass in it from a car accident. I would wash it, and pick out the glass, for you do not want your foot to be damaged or get infected. The source of pain is obvious to both of us, and I would work to get it better and ready to heal.
If your energy system (chakras) are out of whack, I am going to measure them with a pendulum, and do what I can to 'open' them and get them spinning healthy again. (this is my lineage of Reiki, and not Usui tradition to do this.)
No healer would leave an 'energetic foot' full of 'energetic broken glass' if they saw it and were asked to treat it. That would be cutting corners and not doing what they were asked to do.
Some people take offense to energy work on their system. They do not want 'something being done' to them, or 'for' them unless they ask. This is the case for people who are 'stand alone Reiki practitioners'.
But for those of us in the 'healing professions', Reiki is another tool for scanning and treating the patient. In most instances, it can be incorporated in our daily work activities, and attention not drawn to the fact that as we work, loads of Reiki healing are flowing IN. The prospect of 'cafeteria style' healing where one gets to 'pick and choose' is like some people who go through childbirth using a Birth Plan or Method. They limit the options of help that are available to them.
Reiki goes 'in' and in some cases, it 'doesn't'. In the latter case, the Reiki is directed to the client's Guardian Angel, who can make this available to them for its best use.
Reiki is gentle, healing, and present. The ability to give Reiki to yourself and to your loved ones while you are near is the opening of Reiki Level 1. This form of Reiki flowing through you is about as powerful as the electricity in the wiring in your home. As you move up in Reiki training, your ability to 'transmit' healing from 'Source' allows you to use stronger 'energy'. By the time you are at the Karuna level, it is like a power plant that lights up Los Angeles. You don't notice it like that, but it is orders of magnitude stronger. By the way, Karuna is a 'different' healing system that is also wired into the energetic body. It is a form of Love Energy that accomplishes more healing at the soul level, than on the body itself.
I just lost a friend, or perhaps, found out a friend was not actually a friend at all, over my giving them distance Reiki and offering to teach them Reiki Level 1. I don't care if you are a powerhouse of Light and open vortexes all over the globe. This friend, who requested my assistance, could have still learned how to apply a Reiki hand to a sore foot to make it feel better whenever it hurts. There is no need for shots or pills as a first resort.
Reiki is gentle and humble. It will never be on the cover of Time or Newsweek. It is a direct threat to the pharmaceutical industry, and the business of medicine. Lissa Rankin is 'going to teach conscious doctors' and is very excited about this 'new opportunity'. She is the 'poster girl' for Hay House Publishing. (Louise's book 'Heal Yourself' is really a classic, you might want to check it out if you haven't.) If you walk the walk like Dr. Usui, you are not going to draw any attention to yourself at all. Only by word of mouth over the healing that has been experienced by your clients.
Always be wary of the 'donate' button on a blog. There is an 'energy exchange' in Reiki, and a fee, for teaching, and for learning. But look out for people on the internet who do not go to a 'day job'. Those kind of people perpetuate the 'same old same old' systems that we have today. Always be more multidimensional, and bring your Highest Vibration to your Place of Work, especially the Hospital or Clinic. That is where change from within is needed most.

Coach Carlos Mantis Wolf Plantar
Does this title make any sense to you? It makes perfect sense to me! It has to do with my recent lessons from Spirit. They are right for me, and on my level of 'life lessons'. Each word has a story behind it, which later I will explain.
One of the most challenging things about being A Newly Awakened One, is that the excitement at being Awakened makes one want to rush out and share this new awakening to the WORLD!
The world, perhaps, or even your significant other, is not at your level of consciousness.
They might not have eyes that see and ears that hear like you.
There is a quote that goes something like, 'The two reasons why you should not teach a pig to sing: 1) it isn't going to work and 2) it annoys the pig'. I wouldn't say, 'pearls before swine' because that indicates that the pig will forever be a pig and never appreciate the pearl's value. Your loved one simply is on a different time table than you, even if you are Soul Mates or Twin Flames.
What I can say is, your higher Vibration/Consciousness/Awareness is going to directly interact with their aura, which will bypass the brain/mind, and either help uplift them (if they are on Ascension course) or drive them away (leaving room for someone of new higher vibration in your life ).
Does this make sense to you?
It is only logical that Spirit works through the Heart, and Logic works through the Mind, does it not? But having been Newly Awakened, your Heart is going to process it and RESONATE with what is right for you.
Long story short: if it feels good (resonates) do it. Follow your own Bliss. It is the only way to 'lift anyone up'.
So stop trying to annoy that pig in your life! And DO seek companionship/friendship with like-minded others, such as you would find in Psychic Development Class at a reputable place near you.
Coach:
I was guided there to buy a business card holder today at the mall. It turns out that Coach is into 'energy' and 'what you bring to the workplace' has an effect on people and things. The energy there was marvelous, I made three friends who were delighted to discover that I am Reiki Doc. And like all good high-end merchandisers, they promised to be very discreet about my identity.
Carlos:
My next-door neighbor, the brother of the woman of the house. He came home physically exhausted, and energetically depleted. I saw a brown bag with takeout food in it. We waved as we drove in the driveway. I came out, and asked, 'How was your day?'. It was long, and hard. He works in the car wash. It is either too much work, or not enough because of the rain. 'Go and put your feet up!' I said, cheerfully. 'I had a long day, too. Would you like to see how I put my feet up? I smell my plumeria flowers as I go from the car to the kitchen. You haven't smelled this before? It is the scent of Hawaii, and when I sniff I take myself there. Here, take a whiff!' He leaned over, and a smile came across his face (he looks like a street person, all weathered and grizzled, and the smile was beautiful!). 'You know, this smells like banila' he said with his accented English. 'I know. I go from one job--work--to another--mom--and this is all the break I get. I really enjoy it. Feel free to smell them any time!'.
Mantis:
This has to do with some martial arts that is truly inspiring me at the moment. Focus is when your eyes are looking, your ears are listening and your mind is thinking!
Wolf:
I got this sign while taking the Reiki Master boy to the doctor yesterday. It was on top of the x-ray light box, a brand label, but it had a 'sense' to it like it was a message for me. I looked it up: Teacher. That was secondary confirmation for the Ralph Waters blog post. Happy Birthday Ralph! (note--the blog calendar starts at 5 p.m. the day before it hits in California. Although today here is his birthday, when I posted it yesterday it was just in time for the international date line.)
Plantar:
What I thought was a big 'nothing' was plantar fascitis. I had it. It was crippling for my sister. Now one of my kids has it too. But the doc is amazing! Refused to take another x-ray due to concern for 'lifetime exposure'. Prescribed a topical ointment for pain relief that is from a compounding pharmacist. Recommended 'grounding', which is bare feet on earth/dirt to allow electrical equilibration of the person with ground. Also suggested I do 'energy work' on the foot. And cushions for both shoes, but one with a hole in it for the sore one. He said to go into salt water, the ocean, and take a wave to the back. I smiled and said, 'these are Ascension symptoms. People are having a lot of them in the feet. And sea salt added to a bath works just fine for clearing energy too. ' Now he wants my business cards, as Reiki Doc! I will get some to him... : )
I did the energy work tonight. It's not just 'on the foot'. Reiki touched in one place can go anywhere there is need for healing. The child's chakras were way out of whack, and I had just balanced them a week ago. This is the nature of the learning experience! Pure Reiki by Usui, hands-on, does not recommend 'balancing chakras'. I find it helps people to link the energetic 'balance' with something that is visual (a pendulum swing). It shows how they get better right before their eyes. It works well to get people interested in the energetic healing arts. I highly recommend it. (Reiki III and above can do it).
