The Ley Lines Blessing Tonight
It was time to pick up from school. Ross said to go out for pizza, but only if my boy asked.
I got there, and saw the mom of his best friend. She had watched him when I worked; I hadn't seen him for two days.
There was a flurry of activity at the entrance. Apparently another boy's mom was agreeing to the kids asking for them to come to their friend's house after school.
I did a quick scan of the energies--boy was overtired, looked low aura--and that family I know is not high energy. So I said no.
What I didn't expect was the protest and tears in the car the whole ride home.
I was like, 'Ross? Please DO something, help me out, okay?'
He said he's got this. And all of a sudden I started to see signs on the way home. I learned to trust my intuition in this situation more, by those signs. And I knew a steady presence would do more than any words could help at this time. I looked up in the sky and there were two red-tailed hawks circling high up...followed by more 'coincidences' with meaning from Spirit to me.
The last sign was a license plate frame that said, 'God Never Fails'.
As he cried, he sounded like me, and he was upset he didn't get what he wants, which also sounded like me.
At home, I gave simple directions to reorient him. Put away your music. Put away your back pack. Take off your shoes and be comfortable. Lie on the couch.
As an intuitive physician mom, I knew--over tired, some emotional conflict at school, an injury on basketball court (got a slip) and dehydration.
So I got a cool glass of water, and tissues, and soothed the child as only a mother knows how to do. 'It isn't easy growing up, is it?'
He said, 'Mom, remember how you asked if I would like to throw the football? I changed my mind, I'd like to do that now.'
So we did.
Then the Frisbee. I have a lot of room for improvement on my Frisbee skills. ; )
Then it happened.
As the sun sank low in the sky, I did my meditation, while chasing frisbees and footballs. It's intent, not body, that creates meditation.
Then this man I had never seen before came out of my next-door neighbor's house. Very interesting energy. Very interesting gait. Fascinating older gentleman.
I asked, 'Are you staying with them? I'm the neighbor.' and introduced us.
Francisco asked my boy, 'where do you think I am from?'
Mexico? India?
I am from El Salvador. When I was your age, I wanted to improve my life. I went to Mexico and worked on the oil industries and made a lot of money. But then one day, they said, 'You are from El Salvador and this work is only for Mexicans.' He said, 'Give me my time.' and he got a good amount of money.
He looked at the money, and decided if he stayed in Mexico, he would spend it, and it would be even harder to find work. So he decided to go North.
He worked at any job he could. He did parking. He did retail. He did all kinds of things.
One day, he had a stroke. It was eight years ago. He collapsed on the computer register at the kiosk in the parking stall. He couldn't get up, but he was aware enough to wave the cars through.
The manager came in the morning, called the wife, who called her two sons to pick him up (he's a stepfather). They took him to the hospital where the doctor was upset they didn't take him in right away...they said, 'he was working!'.
All his memory was gone.
They gave him pills that made him sleep all the time. He could barely speak.
One day, he realized what was going on, and he slurred in a whisper to his wife, 'Don't give me this medicine. Western medicine is not going to help me. GET..... ME......LECITHIN....'
His wife was like, 'what's lecithin?' but she got it for him anyway.
He started to get things back. He says eight years later he is very close to the man he once was. He knew about the lecithin because he had once worked in a health food store.
One man came in to his shop, hiding his face with his hand, embarrassed. Francisco asked, 'may I help you?'. Without making eye contact, the man confessed, 'I no longer work as a man.'
Francisco gave him lecithin, and ginseng.
The customer stared at it. Francisco said, 'You have to look at it like you believe it for it to work.' The man bought his natural remedy.
About three weeks later, Francisco saw the man outside the subway stop across from the store. They made eye contact. The customer stood tall and gave Francisco one long, slow salute. Then he showed his finger pointing UP. It worked!
Francisco turned to me and asked, 'What is your religion?'
I knew my neighbors were catholic, and I used to be, so I opted to avoid conflict and said I was catholic too.
He said, I am a very OLD religion...I am gnostic. You know I have powers?
He said when you lay down at night, let your body go to sleep, but not your brain. You will feel tingling all in your body. But if your BRAIN is awake, you can stand up once your body is asleep. You will see your body there, lying on the bed, but your Astral Body will be able to go anywhere.
He went to El Salvador to visit his father, who was deceased but working at a workbench.
'Papa, you don't have to work. You can go to where you have to go. You are dead.'
His father never stopped working, and shrugged him off.
He also said how the Church lies.
I listened with interest...
He went for communion. The man in line ahead of him told the priest that Francisco was not Catholic. The priest refused the communion, and told him to leave, and never return.
Francisco enjoyed communion, and went to mass, but never was 'officially' catholic.
He hit the priest. He held him up to the wall, but the priest slipped and hurt his head, and there was a commotion. Francisco said, 'This man lied to the priest and said I was not catholic, and the priest believed him and I got upset.' Then the man was excommunicated on the spot, instead of Francisco.
Francisco advised me to get lecithin for my son's brain (one with every meal) and for me to lose weight (two a day).
I think tomorrow I might stop by the vitamin store. How many times do you see a recovered stroke with no weakness or deficits like that?
Then he went on his walk, after we went over introductions again, just to keep our names straight.
As I shook his hand as he turned to go, I said, in Spanish, 'encantado' which means 'enchanted to meet you'.
He smiled and said, 'egualamente' which means 'me too' and went on his way.
My boy turned to me and asked, 'Mom? Why did you say we are catholic?'
I explained the same way I said earlier to you.
He looked at me in disbelief and said, 'Mom, he talks about what you do every DAY!!', alluding to my energy work with Reiki Doc.
So we tossed the football a little more, then the frisbee. The guy with the brand new white mercedes that the frisbee kept hitting came out of the garage. I winked and said really loud to the boy, 'Want to go get the mail???'
He was like, 'Mom? How did you know it was HIM that owned the car???' --it was in the visitor spot.
I just smiled and shrugged.
Now it's time to make some dinner. Have a great weekend!
Aloha and Mahalos,
Peace and Namaste,
Reiki Doc

An Inside Job
I have dreamed to be a physician since I was four. At that time, most girls with a career interest were groomed to become teachers or nurses. I have never wavered in my desire to become a physician.
I went against my parents wishes and got accepted into a School of Medicine. They did not want for me the lifestyle and the loss of the best years of my life, as they called it. I paid for my M.D. myself.
I took on a lot of debt. I spent long nights busy studying for an exam. I spent sleepless nights learning the trade side-by-side with my colleagues in the hospital at the medical center. I liked it so much, I chose to return and be a teaching doc, an academic physician, in the field of Anesthesiology, which was my dream since I was in undergraduate training.
It is important for the changes in Medicine come from within. Why is this?
As a physician, I do not trust someone that has not paid their dues like me. I do not respect any consultant whatsoever. And people who have once been docs and now have websites and a following but do not set foot in a hospital or touch and actual patient? As far as I am concerned they are not physicians like me. End of story.
They sold out. Anyone who has a 'center' that is named after them, where people can go on retreat and meditate, is not a working doc. They are making money off their Alternative Whatever That Is Popular. They are not like the majority of working docs who are too tired out to fill out their reappointment application to their place of work every two years.
There are some, that left the field of medicine. I am sorry. I don't care if you keep your medical license current or not. If you have not done cases and seen patients, you are not going to be allowed to recertify in your specialty. You can't. You would have to go back to work, in a hospital, and how would you get back if for years you had not done anything surgical? You would not even have a referral base.
It is a one-way street, and the lay person does not know that the majority of folks that they look up to are 'former' practicing physicians but are now 'M.D.'s' in name only. (Mona Lisa Schultz M.D. is the first exception that comes to mind. There are certainly other exceptions.)
There is a story that goes with each one of them: Dr. So-and-So has been psychically gifted since youth. They come from a psychic family. After training to be a doctor, they left a career to find their TRUE CALLING, that of giving hope and inspiration to people like you.
That is fine. If that is your calling, I am okay with it. Only do not come to me and expect me to give you street credibility when in fact in my view you do not. And I am Reiki Doc! Can you imagine what the others who are more conventional than me are going to think when they are approached by someone like you?!?
Does this make sense? Is it logical? How can M.D.'s who are actually taking care of patients motivate themselves to change how they care for these patients from someone who never has to work a night or holiday or see blood all over their shoes like me? It doesn't make sense for us to ask this of them.
And that is exactly what the doctor-maligning community of Energy Medicine is almost 100% about.
Take away Conventional Medicine! Primitive Mothers in 100% natural childbirth! No drugs to offend my delicate sensibilities! Needles are okay for acupuncture but not for immunizations or blood tests or i.v.'s!
I ask of you, why is there such urge to throw the baby out with the bathwater? Why is the general dissatisfaction with the not-so-good parts of medicine driving emotional pleas to scrap the entire system that we have in place? Does it not do some good? I know for a fact once my fibroid was resected I felt so much better!
If you ever have been really sick, you know at once your's doctor's gift of training is priceless in that they can help you in your plight.
I have been that sick. I had a pituitary tumor that was giving me headaches. My team was amazing, very professional, and in my being exposed to them, I came upon the strength to pursue my dream of being a physician against my parent's wishes.
The way I see it, there are two means to achieve this goal of bringing energy healing into conventional Medicine:
1) through the desire of the doctor, nurse, or other worker in the field: Pamela Miles has done this in an effective way. She taught herself how to 'speak doctor' and gain credibility in the medical community with her Reiki Work. She trains others how to interact effectively with working health care providers. Already there are workers, volunteers typically, that offer Reiki treatments to patients. Some docs notice the benefits and request it for their cancer patients. It will take time and lots of exposure to it, to get the docs/RN's/others to try it for themselves. Or to be awakened and hear their calling. It will take a few hardy souls with very thick skin to get into the system. Something is in place that is 'mainstream' that is called 'The Healing Touch'. It is nursing-driven, but a method much like Reiki. But it is not well-known in the Conventional Medicine Community. We need something to reawaken the Healers within the healing arts to bring about the acceptance of Energy Medicine as a specialty itself. I think of it somewhat like Interventional Radiology, imaging and healing in one step.
2) through the desire of the patient and the patient's family: the best way to bring it into the conventional system is to ask for it! Talk about the Elephant in the Room! To take your Reiki with you into the hospital when you go. To be Reiki-trained yourself, and to be a continuous source of Reiki wherever you go. Anything it takes to raise the vibration, and to assist those like me who are at the front lines of this healing trend. I know for a fact that once I started Reiki training, a whole new side of me as a healer opened up. I am more patient, compassionate, and willing to hold a hand or listen or offer a word or hope in my busy day. Isn't it worth it to do whatever it takes to bring the Healer back into Healthcare?
To achieve success, it is the heart center of the healers that will have to be activated. Going through the mind may open an opportunity, but only the heart center awakening is going to achieve the change that is so desperately needed in Conventional Medicine today.
In the future, everyone will take Energy Healing for granted. Right now we are at a standstill: conventional medicine is about as far as it is going to get. Everyone in the field is comfortable. to the point of complacency. The emergence of Alternative Medicine has not changed much about what we do at the Office or Hospital in the practice of Conventional Medicine. We who read these words are going to have to be like Rosa Parks that will keep their seat on the segregated bus. Doesn't it sound archaic--segregation? But it was once a way of life.
By the way, I am NO Martin Luther King! But I am honest in my assessment of the status quo. And I know what it is like to be a patient who is also a physician to bridge the gap between two realms of expectations.
The hook of Energy Medicine is the ease and speed and accuracy of diagnosis through the scanning of the sick. The hands of a Reiki practitioner are the way to sense an imbalance in the aura before it ever shows up on the body.
Our society will have to respect this, and allow for time for patients to return to balance and healing, when they are 'early sick'. Push this trend to the natural end point, and surgery will become a thing of the past. Pill-popping will be passe. There will be no more calls in the middle of the night to wake the healers up! And all will be healthier and happier as a result.
Will you take that first step? Will you find a class and take that Reiki 1? You can't do it from a book.
Spirit is guiding you.
Namaste,
Reiki Doc

Humor in the Hospital
Hospitals are funny. And humor is healing too. This is one of the signs on one of the doors of a patient room on post-partum. We OB anesthesiologists had taken it over. Why? Because there had been a flood in the call room suites in the basement that winter. I had been in the call room at the time, and silly me, had thought, well, the doctor's dining room next door, and Medical Records are flooded, but not the call room!
Water seeks it's own level! Duh!
As the water came in under the door, as deep as my ankles, I had the sense to raise the computer up on a chair, and grab my stuff. I think I still have picture of my scrub pants with the water line. Good thing I wear clogs! LOL
Humor is important in medicine. There are many different types of humor. Some is just plain folk wisdom, helping to teach people and foster the team spirit.
Last night I was talking to my cousin, who is a stuntwoman. She was going to play a red-headed doctor who was nodding off behind the wheel at night in some R-rated made-for-T.V. movie that I would never watch anyway because she dozes off and plows into a bunch of people. I had to make sure they were computer generated ones, and not stunt people, getting hit by the car.
We laughed because as I was coming out of surgery on Tuesday, I was pretty loopy. My crazy uncle, her father, and my sister had been there. The dilaudid was working, and I kept announcing, 'I am going to go to sleep now!'. then I would pass out for about thirty seconds, and repeat the whole thing over again. I made my cousin laugh by mentioning using me as research for her part in the movie!
She didn't know that we laugh in the hospital. All the time. I shared with her one of the old ones I first leaned in the O.R.: all bleeding stops eventually.
She thought that was funny. It took her a while to get it, but she laughed and laughed! It does. Most certainly. We either fix the problem, or the problem wins.
Variations of that are, 'What this patient needs is cold, hard steel' (an operation).
In Trauma Surgery, 'The life you save may one day live to take your own'.
Surgeons and Internal Medicine doctors have a rivalry. Surgeons say, 'we do everything an Internal Medicine Doctor does PLUS we operate!'. Internal Medicine thinks they are smarter. For example, many anesthesiologists have taken internships in Internal Medicine before starting their Anesthesia Residency Training. They call the ether screen (the part of the drape that folds up by the head of the patient during surgery) the 'Blood Brain Barrier'. We are on the 'Brain Side'. ; )
Well, Surgeons don't take that lightly. If you look, you will never see one wearing a stethoscope around the neck like they do on T.V. Real surgeons would never do that. They keep it in their pocket. Why? Because surgeons like to refer to the stethoscope around the neck as a 'Flea Collar'. You may ask, 'Why in the world would they call it a Flea Collar?'. Because fleas are the last thing to leave a dying dog.
Think about it. And let me know when you get it. If you do. I bet George Takei would get it! LOL
My humor has its own place in the bedside. I go around to check the day after my inpatients have major surgery. One of the things I do in pre-op that usually upsets them, is I examine their teeth. I document the condition of everything, where a cap or a veneer or implant is, and caution them because, 'In surgery you never know. If I have to choose between keeping your getting oxygen and your teeth, I am choosing oxygen' (usually I don't put it that way, but they understand that things can sometimes happen, and loose teeth and prosthetic teeth aren't as strong as native ones in good repair.)
When I visit them the next day, I act all surprised that we didn't knock any of their teeth out. "Man, we were SO lucky weren't we?' They get the giggles all the time. Partially because I had the ability to knock them out in the first place, 'You...you...the LAST thing I remember was you telling me you were going to give me a little margarita in my i.v.!!!' and that I got them through all right, with no nausea and no pain in the first place. And all their teeth intact and their voice not hoarse or anything.
Anesthesia is a blessed thing. It truly is. I didn't want to remember the inside of the O.R. when I went for my robotic laparoscopic surgery. And mercifully, I did not recall the inside of the O.R. or transferring over in the first place from my pre-op gurney to the Operating Room Table. (It would have been lumpy, there was a bean bag on it for positioning in the steep trendelenberg position for the case.). Anyways, I had my best friend in there with me. She was doing Chinese Acupressure on me as I went to sleep. I asked her if I said anything funny. She said when I woke up I couldn't believe how quick the surgery had been, and I was happy and smiling. 'Sweet as your usual self" she smiled and said. My anesthesiologist had done anesthesia for other members of my family. He is a friend. He came in just for me that day, on his birthday. I am so lucky to have had all the members of my team that worked on me. They protected my privacy and helped me very much.
Sometimes we have a problem that needs surgery. I can't wait to share more about the many opportunities I had for Reiki in my recovery, and in the hospital as a whole. This new energy medicine/Reiki combination is going to be GREAT! We have so much work to do on this together.
Namaste,
Reiki Doc
